For some time now my Plex media server keeps crashing. The server runs on PC running Windows 11 Pro (Version 10.0.22000, Build 22000.
I have a client App on Samsung TV and another on Google TV. The Server will never stay up for a day, sometimes it will fail after 3/4 hour, sometimes for 2 hours, sometime for 3-4 hours, but it will always fail within 24 hours requiring a recycle. I suspect this must be something in my Windows environment causing this and would appreciate examination of the supplied logs to get a hint at what this problem is caused by.
Thanks , John
When it crashes, is the Plex icon still in the system tray? Does Plex still appear to be “running” in Task Manager, but when you try to access it either via the web interface or by trying to stream on a client you get no response from the server? If your symptoms are similar to what I described, it could be what is called a “deadlock”. Several people (myself included) are having these deadlocks. We have been working with a Plex team member in this thread: Plex Server Crashing Randomly - #98 by Noiaboia
If you suspect a deadlock, I encourage you to read through the most recent posts on that thread and try to get additional diagnostics to help isolate the problem. Server logs alone aren’t enough to diagnose a deadlock, but the additional steps needed aren’t hard at all to perform. If you need assistance with any of the steps, feel free to PM me. Once you get all of the required diagnostics, you can send them to the team member in the thread that I linked above.
If your crashing actually involves the Plex program disappearing from the system tray and Task Manager, the above post will not apply to you.
Please Media Server 1.28.2 has just been released as a beta release
It has a fix for a deadlocks issue that was identified last week
- Server could hang in certain circumstances (#13758)
I looked at the logs you attached. I could not see evidence of deadlock or an actual crash. The logs do show networking issues with your setup with DNS Rebinding protection affecting local network secure connections and they also show a Double NAT (probably you have 2 routers rather than a router in modem/bridge mode and an actual router)
Also I see you are switching from ethernet to wifi and the local IP address is changing when on wifi, which may cause issues for plex client apps connecting to your server
I would recommend sticking to either ethernet or wifi and using DHCP reservation to make sure the IP Address does not change.
Also if you are using two routers, have the ISP Router in Bridge / Modem mode so that you do not get a double nat
The logs were from 1.27.1.5916-6b0e31a64
After making the suggested changes for your network, update to the latest available public release 1.28.1.6104-788f82488 or latest 64-bit preview release Preview: Plex Media Server for Windows 64-bit version - Plex Media Server / Desktops & Laptops - Plex Forum and get me fresh logs if the issue persists. And let me know the IP Address of the device that is failing to access the server and the time when that happened
I upgraded Plex to 1.28.1.6014.
Testing with 2 TVs. Wifi was originally weak in their locations. 1 in lounge used Powerline ethernet to router that distributed stronger wifi signal and then from there, ethernet to TV. the other connected to wifi range extender in room. Our NZ fibre backbone owner recently upgraded all fibre speeds to customers which also increased wifi speeds from my Modem/router so I was able connect the TVs by wifi to this router cutting out Powerline and the range extender. I then opened Plex app on one of the TVs (used to be Powerline ethernet). It lost access to my Plex server after an hour or so. I then upgraded Plex to 1.28.1.6018 and recycled. Opened app on same TV and again lost access to the Plex server after about an hour. I have uploaded the logs from this session. IP address of TV is 192.168.20.26. The problem occurred between 17:30 and 18:00
Plex Media Server Logs_2022-08-21_18-00-59.zip (1.2 MB)
The logs show the TV “Tizen (TV 2019)” on 192.168.20.26 streaming 04 Three Times A Lady.mp3
up to 17:13 when it stopped.
A connection from the TV to the server remained in placed and was refreshed every 20 seconds up to 17:28:14
What logs show at this time is that the local network interface was no longer active

In fact these consecutive log lines suggest your server went to sleep ! / hibernated

Thanks for your message confirming you resolved this issue:
Thanks for sending the link to the latest release. Before I updated I checked that indeed my PC was hibernating so I fixed that and that resolved my problem, Plex has stayed up more that 24 hours!
I’m not sure why I’m getting the double NAT as my TV is now on my wifi from my main router, however this does not seem to be causing a problem.
Well - looking closer - it appears that you have a CGNAT setup - the 100.65.xx.xx
is within the CGNAT Address range. See sections on CGNAT here Troubleshooting Remote Access | Plex Support
