With the Plex Pass, can other users see my photos/videos that are backed up from my phone, or are they isolated?

I’m using a NVidia Shield Plex Media Server. Currently I do not have the Plex Pass. I am debating on buying it if it meets my requirements.

Background:
Plex Pass adds the ability to create user accounts (like Netflix) where you can add your own favorites, and it keeps track of your watch history, etc. All this is done without affecting other users. Does this same logic apply to uploading of media?

Question scenario:
If I create 3 users (Admin, User #1 User #2). Then User #1 uploads a photo, or video from phone to Plex…

Q1) Can Admin see the photo/video?
Q2) Can User #2 see the photo/video?
Q3) Can User #1 create a shared folder so User #2 can see them?

Thanks for your help!

You don’t need a Plex Pass to establish a Plex Home where you can create different Managed Users under your account, each with their own watch history, favorites…

That being said, Plex had discontinued the option to upload photos from mobile phones earlier this year… so this use case will no longer be covered.

The admin is the sole owner of the server and its content. While managed users can have their own playlists, they can only see (watch/listen) what has been shared with them by the admin.

Thanks for your helpful reply!

Based on the fact Plex has discontinued media upload from mobile, I do see a workaround using a NAS with an app to upload videos from mobile to the storage automatically, which then Plex can access.

So my revised question scenario is…

I create 3 users (Admin, User #1 User #2).

On the drive, there is a folder called Pictures. Within that file is folders “Admin”, “User #1”, “User #2”.

Can I map…

  • User #1 to only access pictures from the directory Pictures/User #1
  • User #2 to only access pictures from the directory Pictures/User #2
    …basically ensuring User #1 can’t access User #2 etc.

Background: I am trying to create an cloud ecosystem for my family, with Plex being the main GUI for all Movies, TV, and personal Photos/Videos. Thus eliminating the need for iCloud Photos/Google Photos.

Thanks for your help

You can create different folders and link them to different libraries. You can subsequently make those libraries available to individual users. Only the admin (main account) will see all).

Managed users cannot scan those libraries for updates files on their own.
