Wizard not working

Server Version#: latest
Player Version#: latest

Hi After Plex running great for years, I did the latest updates and then all of a sudden Plex couldn’t find my server. I have been trying everything even uninstalled everything and started again, but i t wont load the wizard so I now have no way to connect to my server.

Any clues anyone?

Why isn’t the wizard just always there so we can use it when something breaks!

The wizard appears only on a brand new setup.

See You need to reclaim your server, but don't dare to touch the Windows Registry

and after that, see New Claiming Requirement for Windows

So far all the best result I get is this, other times the I just get a spinning disc when I open Plex

Which Windows version have you got?
Is this your own machine or is it a VM in a datacenter?

Windows 11 and my own machine

Try:

  • removing support for the IPv6 protocol from the network adapter
  • set your DNS server to either 1.1.1.1 or 8.8.8.8
  • if you have a non-default DNS resolver in use, disable “Secure DNS”

OK Changed Network to 1.1.1.1 with 8.8.8.8 as alternative option
Cleared the Reg
Forced a Reclaim from Setup.Plex.html.
Still comes up with the error screenshot above.
I have noticed tho that in the Authorized Devices it doesn’t list the NAS?

That is to be expected, if it’s not claimed yet.
But wait, aren’t we talking about a Plex server running on Windows?
A NAS running on Windows is very unusual. In 99% of all cases, a NAS is using Linux.
Where did you install Plex server on?

Sorry I may have the wrong end of the stick, but I thought previously in the Autho Devices that the NAS was in there as well as the Desktop.

It is on Windows but also there as A Plex Media server App loaded on the WD My Cloud EX2 Ultra

Which server do you want to add into your account?
If the NAS is still able to run the Plex server software, you can add it as well. But you need to know which one you are working on.

Previously it worked having it on the NAS, as that is where the library is.
I believe that the server software was also on the desktop as well as the Plex program.
I apologize if I hadn’t made it clear about the NAS before.
Nothing is running anymore after the update.
There doesn’t seam to be an option to add the server to the Autho Devices.
I had followed the instructions after clearing the Reg and claiming the server, if I attempt from the pop up near the clock on windows I just get an orange spinning wheel.
So then I’ve used the “Setup Plex.html” to claim the server and I end up with the snapshot of “Something went wrong…”

That is what the procedure linked above is supposed to achieve.

What update? Plex server, or Windows? Or something else?

The procedure didn’t quite work, I stopped using the ClaimPMSWin as further down in the comments it says it doesn’t work.
So tried using Method 2.2 but this only worked once I went in to the Authorized Devices and deleted all the listed devices for my Desktop. Then it connected with Plex and listed my Desktop on there. OK now I have got to a stage were Plex will talk to a server on my machine but it will still not see my WD EX2 Ultra where my library is.

If from the WD I click on configure for the Plex server, I get this

Some of the time, the rest of the time it says it cannot connect.

The procedure is for Windows machines. It will not help you if you want to connect a Plex server that is running directly on a NAS device.

You would need someone with experience with your particular NAS brand. Unfortunately I am not that person. I can only give you this: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

For now, you could connect the regular file shares of your NAS to your Windows machine. Which then in turn the Plex server on that Windows machine can use: How to add files on a NAS to a Plex library on Windows
