[Workaround]PMS or player unable to transcode and display subtitles for files with multiple versions

Server Version#: 1.40.4.8679
Player Version#: 10.18.0.968 (also tested on a Samsung TV which I don’t know the version)

I don’t know if this is a PMS or player related issue to be honest, but both Samsung and Android players will stuck on load for some files that need transcode (mostly because of audio) while a subtitle track is selected.

Some files are transcoding and playing fine, some are not. I’m struggling finding a pattern… OK FOUND IT !

  • Video is always HEVC
  • Audio isn’t compatible with device and must be transcoded
  • An SRT track selected
  • Multiple versions of the movie are available !

Workaround : Select any version of the movie, it doesn’t matter, it will play fine.

Some related topics, maybe :

Incompatible audio and SRT track basically is enough on the Samsung TV app.

I won’t be able to test on samsung tv, but on android it’s 100% repeatable

Any dev here able to replicate this ?

Yes, this is a known issue with multiple versions of a movie and subtitles. There is a ticket open for it but I can’t give an update on when it will be attended to. It is PMS related

I do not have multiple versions of the video track (or files), only multiple versions (languages) of the audio track, BUT incompatible with the TV (player), and SRT (does not matter if internal, external) selected. PMS transcodes only audio, and it stops after a few minutes. If compatible audio track (like lower quality commentary track) is selected, movie plays flawlessly. Is this a separate issue then?
