Wrangling Doctor Who Episodes, Seasons and Series

Presently on TheTVDB.com, Doctor Who exists as two separate series, Doctor Who and Doctor Who 2005. Within those series they are organized very strictly by season and episode. As long as you get your naming right, Plex will deliver a viewable set of episodes.

What I would like (and I bet, many others) Is to be able to see Doctor Who in the listings as;

Doctor Who
1 - William Hartnell
S1
S2
2 - Patrick Troughton
S1 OR S4 (relative season or absolute season)
S2 OR S5
3 - Jon Pertwee

etc

It occurs to me that the best way to make this happen is to create a new Entry on theTVDB.com but I don’t think TVDB has the structure to allow this and even if it did, would Plex be able to display it as desired?

Is this perhaps a good candidate for a plug-in? One that simply maps theTVDB entries to the desired display format?

Anybody got any other good ideas for this special case?

its gonna be a lot of work but its doable… what you need to do is go in and insert all that meta data yourself. On a mac I use iflicks. It will go and get the basic metadata for you and then you can just edit the season/episode number but it would retain everything else!

TheTVDB aren’t going to accept that entry. They just won’t. The 2005 series is a different series so it’s not surprising. People like to say doctor who wasn’t cancelled but it was.

I wouldn’t waste your time. Just name them as they are on TheTVDB.
