Wrong episode showing despite proper naming

Server Version#: 4.132.2
Player Version#: Web (and others)

I have a folder named “Schoolhouse Rock (1973)” and within that folder I have “Season 01” Episode one should be “My Hero, Zero” based on the file name, but instead it is showing “Three is a Magic Number” as the first episode and “My Hero, Zero” as episode two.

I don’t see anything wrong in my naming. What am I missing?

  1. Schoolhouse Rock (1973) - s01e01 - My Hero, Zero.mkv
  2. Schoolhouse Rock (1973) - s01e03 - Three is a Magic Number.mkv

Plex doesn’t consider the episode title from your file name.
It’ll use the metadata for the show from its online repository based on season/episode numbers.

The default episode order for tv-show libraries is based on how the show is listed on The Movie Database. You can change/override that for the entire library or individual shows.

In your example, Schoolhouse Rock is listed like this on TMDb:

s01e01 - Three Is a Magic Number
s01e02 - My Hero, Zero
s01e03 - Elementary, My Dear
...

On TheTVDb, Schoolhouse Rock is however listed differently – in line with your expectations.

Next steps:

  1. Edit the show (:pencil2:)
  2. Open the Advanced tab/section
  3. Set Episode ordering to TheTVDb (Aired)
  4. Save

You might need to refresh the show’s metadata after applying this change.

Thanks so much! That fixed it. I guess I just assumed it used the episode name, but it doesn’t actually say that. Hope you have a great day!
