WTF did Plex do to the GUI on Roku?

Its a bit counterproductive for them considering Plex doesnt even work for many people now.. lol Plex management are complete idiots.

Do you regularly watch paid on demand content served by plex or live TV with ads? If not they don’t care if you leave.

MB just couldn’t work with the frequently changing UK OTA live TV formats. Shame really because I wanted to stick with it.

JF is definitely going to be investigated here. I don’t see the Plex situation improving in the future; Unfortunately I think it’s on a permanent downhill slope and has probably has been for a while now.

It’s pure trash. I’ve run a Plex server for 10 years, but I’m finally done. First they ruined the iOS Apps and forced me to use Plexamp for audio. Now they’ve trashed the simplistic useability on Roku. I’m testing JellyFin now and it looks promising.

If PLEX were honest and this isn’t about Expanding their REVENUE STREAM and forcing the user to into paying more then Give the Lifetime Subscription holders their Money BACK or anyone else that got suckered into this SCAM…

Why oh why would ANYONE think it was a good idea to remove the user friendly home screen side navigation bar which required ONLY ONE click to access. The reasoning for this change is incomprehensible. Do you not understand the term user friendly? I’m seriously considering switching to Jellyfin but the time to customize my entire library isn’t appealing. This update is really making the argument for the time commitment. I have already installed Jellyfin, and started with the library setup.

What are the requirements to share your library with others on Emby? I don’t mind paying (even though I have lifetime PlexPass), but I’m curious if people I’d share with also need to pay.

Having read through the forum posts about the updated UI and have experienced it myself, I have noticed that Plex does not appear to really care but I wonder if Roku would? I wonder if complaining to Roku about the Plex app, they could put pressure on Plex that we can’t. For example, Roku could probably revert the app to the previous version or could pull the app from the store until this gets sorted out.

Try this link to another post - same issues. I may have found an answer.

I am in total agreement with mrsan4. Since the new GUI arrived, I have lost navigation with my ROKU remotes. I cannot get to subtitles or other options for viewing. In general, this new GUI muddies the experience rather than making navigation more intuitive. There needs to be an immediate fix and a clear way to go back to the older GUI which worked well and was easy to navigate. I should add that this change is an embarrassment to those of us who have to answer to our friends/relatives who share our media.

After I set up Jellyfin

Had a chat with a Roku advisor. See screenshot. It seems like Plex could theoretically revert back to the previous version but I doubt they will.

So it’s not just me! I’ve had to reboot my Roku Streambar twice in two days to get back the ability to skip intro, pause etc. Not sure how a UI update broke that.

You used to be able to select which options you even wanted to have displayed. I’ve scoured the settings to remove “discover” and its no longer possible.

Trying to reinvent the wheel, they broke what wasn’t broken.

100% Give us options to put it back and keep the customizations we had. Someone made a really bad call at Plex.

Agree with MK1277, “If you’re going to change a UI that everyone is used to, give us the option to keep it the way we had it/like it. PUT IT BACK!”

SMB now only. They broke the front end. Intentionally…sad

I agree with your statement that the new GUI has added difficulty and complexity. Plex Staff - Please hear us and address this. If you wont revert, please make the new app more like it was previously. As someone who has worked in creative teams before, this tells me that somewhere along a process, one or many people at plex made the decision that to add this complexity would somehow benefit someone. Im requesting to find where that decision was made and address that for the future as well as fixing the damage it has done. Much like OP, I have family members (children in my case) who dont have the technical knowhow to address some of the added difficulty in accessing content.
