This evening I went to watch a movie on plex and nothing was working. I Logged into the server and suddenly it’s not working in the browser, it’s some crappy app i have to use! Fine, I start the app and it doesn’t seem to realize I’ve been using plex for oh these may years. Libraries…what libraries it says. Your home screen is empty..WTF. Server is unavailable!! Seriously what is going on over there. I just want to watch a movie. Suddenly I’m trying to install emby and jellyfin just to watch something. All these crappy app updates i suffered through, fine, but these server wasn’t being messed with. So much for that! Anyone got a good guide for ditching this crap? If I’m wrong, by all means let me know. But as far as I can tell, Plex it not working and It is Completely On Them.
For crying out loud, is anyone running Emby. I can’t get this thing to open on Mac. I try to open it and all i get is done or move to trash. Seems to no longer be a way to open it. Yes, I tried right clicking on it and choosing open, seems to no longer work. Ugh, all these platforms suck now-a-days. So frustrated.
If Plex told you the server was unavailable…
… Is it possible the message was correct? Did you check to see if your server was running?
@PeteB Did you hear about the password reset and Plex vulnerability that were patched last month? Part of that was signing you out of your devices, and it sounds like you need to reclaim your server by signing back into it and signing back into the Plex app on your ATV and maybe power cycle the ATV.
As far as running Emby goes, Apple tightened up their security bypass system when opening certain apps the first time. The standard method of allowing the app to run is now:
- try to double click it or CTRL+right click or Option+right click and choose Open.
- After being to asked to trash or cancel you cancel.
- Then you right click on System Settings and choose Privacy & Security
- Then you scroll down to the bottom of the window and click the override button which will allow the app to run like any other app.
