Xbox 360 app cannot communicate with server

Is the Xbox 360 plex app still maintained? I know it’s an old console, but I’m not going to upgrade.
I am able to log in with root and all managed users, can see library, but when I want to play an item in the library, be it music, movie, or tv show, the app stops responding for a while then get error message that the app cannot communicate with the server, please make sure that the server is running.

Thanks for any feedback. It’d be nice to stream to the 360.

Server Version#: 1.18.1.1973 (plex-pass on FreeNAS)
Player Version#: latest through xbox 360 store

note: I have an active and working MS Live account as well, and I’m running the app in the profile with the MS Live account.

One of my co-workers mentioned yesterday that they could not watch anything from my server over the weekend. He also uses the xbox 360. Everyone elese that uses my server is on a roku or apple tv and have seen no issues. I down graded the server back to 1.18.1.1944 and it is working for him again today.

Thanks @mfelch I’ll try downgrading to the previous version to check if it works. As a note, the Xbox 360 appears in the list of “Authorized Devices”, don’t know if this makes this issue easier to solve or not.

I believe the 360 version was retired some time ago, with no further ongoing development.

This worked for me as well.

Hi, how did you downgrade? where did you get the previus version? I have the same problem since the last upgrade and don’t know hot to downgrade on mac.

Found it and the downgrade fixed it.

where did you find it?

Where did you find this download ?

Are they aware this is going on?

Hopefully this post will explain the status of the Plex Xbox 360 app. Sorry to say, but they’re not maintaining it anymore. When it stops working, it’s done.

While I did see that, and realise that they’re probably going to stop support for it (as distinct to maintaining it, which that post suggests isn’t actually possible, since Microsoft turned off updates for apps) at some point, it’s still a bit of a shame that it’s stopped due to an update to the server - as in people are suggesting downgrading will bring it back to life.

this is clearly a dropped feature, I did downgrade on my debian plex server back to 1.18.1.1944 and it is still working flawlessly.

Cheers for that link, I’ll see if that fixes it here too.

The client in question is attached to an otherwise solid, but old, plasma that has no hdmi/digital input, so xbox360 (or PS3, which we also have, and still works) are about the only options that still offer analogue out :crying_cat_face:

The Roku Express Plus has analog outs.

$35 on Amazon.

That’s a tempting option. I imagine it doesn’t do 1080i, but then I’m not sure the xbox plex is doing that either. I’ve not been watching as I don’t use the 360

Many thanks for this thread. Sad but understandable about Xbox 360 client no longer being supported.

Thanks for option of server version rollback to 1.18.1.1944 to re-enable improved Xbox 360 support and I found previous safe Plex Windows OS version archives at https://www.filehorse.com/download-plex-media-server/44156/

On consideration though I’ve decided this is likely final straw to retire our Xbox 360 from Plex + Media Centre Extender (the only reason my main PC’s still on Windows 8!) from active duty and I’ve grabbed a Black Friday deal on an Amazon Fire TV stick for £19.99 atm
