I’m incredibly grateful I can finally directplay truehd 7.1, soundbar finally shows dolby atmos. However it doesn’t come “free”.
My setup is XSX > LG C9 eARC > Soundbar.
HDMI Input: Bitstream
HDMI Out: Passthrough
Xbox Audio Settings for video apps: Passthrough On - > Xbox Support
On high bitrate remuxes the playback is fine for the most part but if one pauses and resumes 90% of the time audio will be out of sync or it will stutter / loop for 5 seconds the same sound and the “loading” yellow circle will show up. This is fixed by pressing “left” to seek back and it will fall in place.
This also happens occasionally with no intervention. When I can I’ll record a video showcasing this issue.
I’d like to add stuttering also happens on 1080p files, sound isn’t affected here but video stutters at random points until I seek back or forth once to “reset”.
Thank you. Apart from both of these issues. The app works absolutely great. Much much better experience than the native LG app!
If those 2 issues are fixed (the second one on my OP isn’t high bitrate trueHD at all). And eventually add PGS/ASS directplay then it’s a winner IMO.
Just wanted to add my 2 cents. I know you guys have to contend with apps on a ton of devices / software etc. So I appreciate the xbox app receiving some attention to at least bring it up to par! Navigating the xbox tag here is just endless negative discussions, hopefully that will soon change!
I’ve done a little more testing on this recently by finding video files affected (all of them being UHD HDR TrueHD remuxes of some kind) and playing them through Plex’s DNLA server.
What I’ve found is that they play flawlessly through the Xbox’s (in my case a Series X) Movies and TV app using the DNLA server for about an hour before playback stops with a “your device does not have enough memory to play this” error. According to Kodi, my Series X has 8GB of memory and only ever has about 600MB free at any given time.
Given that it seems to be a memory issue with the console, but Plex’s player can avoid it by periodically pausing or scrubbing in either direction, maybe Plex can update how their client recovers from this out of memory event? The worst part of this issue, at least to me, isn’t so much the stutter as much as that it desyncs the audio pretty badly without manual intervention. If everything synced up after a stutter, I’d be mostly okay with it.
That is assuming there’s nothing the Plex client can do to more aggressively free up memory during playback. There’s enough to have a video file play pretty well for about 30 minutes in the Plex client as is.
