So I’m running plex on a synology 416play hardwired to my router and normally running plex player on xbox one x with hdmi passing through a newer yamaha 5.1 receiver I’ve never had any problems in the past but in the last few months I’ve had to start a movie … normally newer 1080p mkvs with 5.1 sound and I’ll have to restart my receiver once the movie starts playing just to hear sound. If I dont as soon as the movie starts all the speaker icons on the receiver disappear and so does the sound. The audio on the xbox works perfect with anything else except plex. Maybe I have a setting wrong ( which again hasn’t ever been a problem and havent changed anything) or maybe it’s just the latest update for plex on the synology I’m not sure but while writing this I am not currently in front of my system so I dont have the current version I’m running or the receiver model number. But I can add the info tomorrow evening. But until then any ideas that I can try tomorrow when I get back there would be awesome… thanks in advance and I love plex and preach to everyone about it
Well like I was saying it only happens when watching a movie with plex nothing else
Also without the amp on the TV just goes to its screensaver mode as the amp has hdmi ins and outs and everything passes through the amp
I dont use optical everything is done via hdmi
Then why when I start a movie and turn the receiver on then off does it work just fine for everything… also why did this just start happening and has been fine for the longest time
I would try and think back to when it first started happening and try to determine if there was a change around that time. I don’t really see this issue being related to the Plex Server, but it could be something like Plex Client, Xbox software update, receiver firmware update (maybe).
If you can get to it easily, then try a different HDMI cable to see if there is any difference. I know it is unlikely a cable issue since other apps work fine, but it is worth the effort to confirm. If it wasn’t working correctly for other apps that pass audio through, then I would think that it could be a handshaking issue, but that is obviously not the case.
I had the same issue. For me it could be resolved by turning sound pass through off in the options of the plex player.
There is no audio passthrough option on plex player for xbox one… the only audio options are volume boost and under video the max h.264 level
