It’s Back!! …on Apple TV
Extra clicks that were not there before
I get it. I just don’t like it.
I got the combined DVR / Plex Live TV here for a day before it reverted back. I didn’t care for it. My local OTA station info was drowned out by the Plex Live TV stations. I couldn’t find the OTA stains in the home screen “what’s on now section” and the browse function, which is very useful for looking at TV programming, was completely broken - just got an endless spinning circle when I tried to use it.
Yes you’re right one extra click. But we now have favorite channels which is huge for most people that don’t want to keep scrolling through the whole guide.
@mspacek you can go to the top right under the guide and uncheck what you don’t want there so you’re over the air can be separated from the Plex channels. Or you can go in the server itself and remove Plex channels all together.
Ironically, I think I can get it back to marginally useful by unfavoriting everything.
It’s fine. It’s a user experience you find useful. I personally do not, and would like my stuff back, away and separated from the Plex stuff. Two separated libraries on the left menu.
They’ll (the Plex devs) will need to add a HIDE ALL as well as SHOW ALL as a faster way to hide and unhide because quite honestly no one is going to sit through 600+ available channels to disable each and every one they don’t want. The other issue is also maybe incorporating a search mechanism, as I’m sure there’s going to be duplicates of channels listed and what fun will it be if we all have to continually scroll when we can type in a channel number or the name of the channel to hide it faster.
This is the problem we always had. Just when we have gotten accustomed to the forced or necessary UI that Plex develops out of pure outcry from when Windows officially gave an EOL on Windows Media Center and from the dismal and underwhelming UI from HDHOMERUN, it was decent and somewhat functional but most of us wanted what Plex deems ADVANCED but we see as essential DVR settings. There’s still so many more DVR functionality that needs to be addressed despite this new project they got rolling out.
Just got an update pushed that looks better than the version from a couple of days ago I’d complained about. The issues which I had earlier seem fixed although I literally just got it so don’t know what other issues there might be. But my first impression is good. ![]()
The change to “What’s on now” is still somewhat disappointing. It used to show up under "Live TV and DVR ", it showed TV shows and movies on now, upcoming, new shows, etc. It’s now just gone.
I really don’t understand how a very fundamental part of the previous UI didn’t even be bothered to be transported into this new UI. It honestly would have calmed the hell out of everyone had it been a true unification.
FYI on case anyone runs into the same situation. My firestick 4k got updated to the new merged UI and… Nothing would play. Not livetv or recorded, nothing. And navigation was clunky, not responding correctly. And it would frequently just completely reset. Finally decided to try unplugging the USB power, wait a bit and plug back in. It’s late so I didn’t really test it thoroughly but I could play recordings again, so hopefully all is well.
