Just bought a new Vizio V435-G0 2019 model to replace my broken down Samsung, BECAUSE IT HAD PLEX on the app list! Much to my disappointment I’m wondering THIS IS A PLEX APP? It looks terrible next to my old Samsung smart hub app, and has no function other than select and play. From what I’ve seen on the web it’s been this way from the start. So tell me PLEX do I send this TV back or you planning to release a real PLEX app in the near future, or do I just go looking for a better server? PLEX has loaded a lot of useless crap and keeps adding more, while core function and player apps suffer.
In my opinion, and since Plex doesn’t post roadmaps or timelines, you’re best off making other arrangements, be that a different TV with a better Plex app, or adding a stick or streaming box to your current TV.
You are proably right, just got it today and still have the box, they may get it back. Was just looking at some refurbished Samsung’s, but don’t know if their apps would be any better. My old Samsung had the independantly maintained Plex app not the mainstream Samsung app. Will do more research before I decide what to do. Verry dissapointing that PLEX dosen’t care about its users or it’s reputation anymore.
Unless you buy a Samsung from 2015 or earlier you will not see Orcas independent app.
But even if you do, a word of warning. That app is no longer developed due to the devs heath issues.
Every other Smart TV app runs UNO as far as I’m aware. Though I’m not too familiar with Visio TV’s.
In fact more or less every Plex client now runs UNO.
Just found out from TV’s manual, can’t change resolution, or stretch picture for high restitution video. Have to do some checking to find the cut-off resolution, not directly stated. No way Plex or any other app can bypass that, but I can trans-code to 16:9 if I have to. The negatives just keep stacking up.
It’s a 4K television – it will automatically upscale anything less than than 2160p resolution.
Tip: don’t pick a smart TV for its “smart” features. Pick it for picture quality and sound (or you’ll be shelling out for a sound bar pretty soon).
Leave all the “smart” features to a STB. My tip would be the nVidia Shield console.
Just to add… if you did go for the Shield a new model is launched in a few days.
EDIT: My comment is not an endorsement of the Shield.
