"Your changes could not be saved" message

I get this message when adding TV Shows “Your changes could not be saved”

This has happened with every Server version since & including “PlexMediaServer-1.41.7.9799-5bce000f7-x86_64.qpkg”

I keep going back to version 1.41.6 and everything then returns to normal, I have searched & tried all the suggested remedies I can find, but no, I have to remain on 1.41.6.

QNAP TS-453D and macOS Tahoe (was the same with Sequoia).

Any ideas?

PMS 1.41.7 had a major database bug.

Those errors were fixed in 1.41.8.

May I suggest you upgrade ASAP to 1.42.2 and, if possible, confirm your databases are not grossly bloated (I’ve seen 50+ GB databases which should be about 1GB in size)

Yes, I tried 1.42.2 this morning which presented the same problem, whereas 1.41.6is still OK.

May I see your server’s DEBUG logs ZIP file captured right after reproducing the error ?

I’m going to need help to find what you want here.

I’ll attach a couple of snapshots.

Go into Plex , in Plex/web browser

Upper right – SETTINGS — Now click your server name (left side) –

Go Down to Troubleshooting

In center of the page is “DOWNLOAD LOGS”

Click it

It will give you a ZIP file

Attach that ZIP file here (drag / drop) with your next post

Sorry that took a while, I was mistakenly looking at Qnap until I reread your post.

It didn’t zip the files automatically.

Archive.zip (3.6 MB)

The request you’re making to the server is too long:

Nov 14, 2025 07:52:25.962 [140500771814200] DEBUG - Request URI too large; currently at 40952

It looks like you’re adding an enormous amount of paths to the library, this is definitely not normal. Most people should only be adding a single path here (or maybe a handful if you have things scattered around on different drives) pointing to the root of your media for that library type (e.g. /home/user/TV Shows).

It looks like you’re adding individual folders for many many separate paths. If you correct this your problem should go away.

Here is an article explaining naming: https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-tv-show-files/

@ibarnett

To supplement DrZ’s comment,

If your media is in a shared folder (e.g. /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/media/TV) then you only add /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/media/TV.

Example:

[chuck@lizum tv.2003]$ cd /glock/media/tv4
[chuck@lizum tv4.2004]$ ls
Celebrity MasterChef/ Gordon Ramsay - Uncharted/ MasterChef/ Next Level Chef/
Celebrity MasterChef (2006)/ Hell's Kitchen (AU)/ MasterChef Australia/ Tournament of Champions/
Chef's Table/ Hell's Kitchen (US)/ MasterChef - The Professionals/
Gordon Ramsay's 24 Hours to Hell & Back/ Hotel Hell/ MasterChef (US)/
[chuck@lizum tv4.2005]$

For this folder, I tell Plex to look at /glock/media/tv4.
It will find everything in this folder without need of listing individually.
It will also see the required Series / Season / Episode structure for each which ensures correct matching.

Ok thanks guys.

I will look at this today and try to rectify, but of course I have been doing this forever.

However the questions comes back, why did it work previously and not now?

Anyhow I will try to change……..

So it seems that just because I had been doing the wrong thing forever….

I really don’t know why I went down that rabbit hole.

It just happened to catch up with me and I hope I have rectified it, will take some time.

Thanks millions for your help, much appreciated.

It worked because your naming was great and you had not yet exceeded the maximum URI length (string length)

Ok I have now deleted all those entries under TV Shows, rescanned and everything is back.

Also updated to the most recent Plex Version but I haven’t added any new shows as yet but I am confident it will work OK.

Another question I have saved movies under one folder then a sub folder, such as:

/share/Public/Movies/New 2022/Emily.the.Criminal.2022.

So in your opinion is that OK or should I just have them under /share/Public/Movies/Emily.the.Criminal.2022.

Seems ok as it is, previously I was editing the movie name to get rid of the full downloaded name, but now I just leave it there i.e. Emily.the.Criminal.2022.720p.WEBRip.800MB.x264

This leaves a much longer file name, so does that really matter?

Thanks in advance.

For this movie, if the complete path is:

/share/Public/Movies/New 2022/Emily.the.Criminal.2022/Emily.the.Criminal.2022.mkv

Then you tell Plex to look in

/share/Public/Movies/New 2022/

I presume you’re building a library section for 2022 movies ?

Well no, I wasn’t particularly trying to build a separate library section for 2022.

That was just how I was storing.

I see now I am probably ditching the years & just placing the movies in /share/Public/Movies

I think I will progressively do that.

Thanks.

I have been using Plex since about 2009, looks like I am still learning.

I will change my new movies to as suggested in the guide:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/

Too many to change them all

Thanks again for your help.

@ibarnett

There are tools out there to help you reorganize easily.

I use FileBot (TinyMediaManager is another).

I give it a template and it
– performs name lookup and makes certain my naming follows the rule (Plex naming)
– creates the directory structure I give it. (it moves the files and cleans up as well)

I run it from my workstation, which has the NAS as a NFS mount,

I use

/nas/media/movies/{n} ({y})/{n} ({y})

It creates for me (sample)

Ghostbusters (2016) [1080p]/ Philomena (2013) [1080p]/ The Transporter Refueled (2015) [1080p]/

I’ll share my full renaming rules if you want them.

Yes your rules would be a big help thanks.

Then I will have a go at your suggestion.

When you’re ready, I’ll help you with specific rules (if you want)

Using Movies as I showed you above

TV Series:

/nas/media/tv/{n}/Season {s:pad(2)}/{n} - {s00e00} - {t}
/nas/media/tv -- parent directory
{n} -- name of the show
Season {s:pad(2)} -- 'Season' directory with season number padded to 2 digits
{00e00} -- standard SxxEyy episode identifer
{t} -- Episode title

Thanks, I really appreciate that.

It will take me a week or so to organize this.
