I usually access Plex via an app on my TV
Today I noticed it was playing up (endless loading icon), so I tried accessing via my phone and noticed all of the libraries that I have pinned have a warning triangle against them.
I logged into plex via a browser and it shows “Your home screen is empty”
I logged into my Synology DS918+ NAS drive and launched Plex from the Package Center - this too shows “Your home screen is empty”
The media server was running v1.25.1.5286-6000
I manually updated this to the latest version (v1.40.4.8679-6000)
Logging back into Plex via the Package Center shows me the same message “Your home screen is empty”
I have no idea why this issue has occurred.
I have made no changes to my NAS drive or the Plex package on it - everything was working fine yesterday.
I don’t see the ‘Restore home screen’ option mentioned in some of the help articles I’ve read.
Selecting ‘More’ just gives me a button entitled ‘Get Plex media server’ which takes me to plex.tv to download plex server.
How can I re-add my media server to my plex account?
iOS and AppleTV app still works fine but Plexamp and web doesn’t show my media server.
Even the media server web interface cannot detect its own database!
Problem not fixed, but maybe some progress has been made?
I followed steps for “Reclaiming a lost server”
All went according to plan up till Step 16…
After logging in, it showed all my libraries and prompted me to finish setup (which I did).
It then prompted me to update metadata (probably because I’d updated the version of Plex in a previous attempt to fix the problem) - I let the update occur (took about 5 mins).
I selected the profile icon in the top right and selected ‘Sign In’ - I signed in
I still showed ‘Your home screen is empty’ but my libraries were now listed on the left pane.
My media server was displayed at the top of the list, with a warning triangle against it
I selected my media server, which showed “Diskstation server is unclaimed and not secure” and showed a button ‘Claim it now’ - which I clicked
On the next screen, I selected ‘Claim Server’ - which loaded for a bit, but didn’t appear to do anything (The ‘Save changes’ button at the bottom of the screen remained greyed out).
When I go back to Home, it still shows a warning triangle next to my media server
Interestingly, on this screen it shows “Version 1.40.4.8679 ! An update is available. Please install manually”
My setup is a bit different, so I cant try that option.
I have Plex server and app installed on my pc (Windows 11). An externa 8TB harddisk is where the data is on. The PC sees and can open and view the data (movies and such). The Plex app on my browser (Chrome) keeps saying there is no Plex Media Server. Under settings it does not find it. I have no idea how to add it, all Google Seach options do not work.
I have uninstalled Plex Media Server, downloaded the lastest version, and installed it again. It is actively running (using about 50mb RAM). I do not know if this is suppost to do this, but when I open Plex Media Server it does nothing, no screen appears (even when I run as admin).
An search option tells me to make sure the Plex Media Server and my app are logged in with the same user, but during the installation of the Media Server it never asks for a login. And since I cant open the Plex Media Server, I can’t get further.
Ok… While I’m typing this, I tried a different browser, Edge instead of Chrome, and when I open Plex on there, it sees the Plex Media Server, asks me to claim it. Opening Plex in Chrome does nothing, opening it in Edge solved it. But why? I’m accessing the same Plex website and all. Just a different browser. And yes, I have tried deleting cookies and cache on Chrome.
I’m having the same issue as well since this morning, and also haven’t made any changes to my server or network. My libraries are showing a yellow triangle in all network devices, it only works on the server’s computer. It was working flawless for the past 3 years. I’ve tried reclaiming the server, updating, rebooting everything, and nothing worked (I normally use an AppleTV).
I’ve found the solution to my problem - it probably won’t be the same solution for others.
Over the last few days, I haven’t been able to log into the forums - my browser was giving me a certificate error for plex.tv
My desktop machine usually runs a VPN client, which I had disconnected a few days ago to perform specific task and not started it back up again.
After starting my VPN client, I immediately tried to log back into the forums - it worked straight away.
I concluded that somewhere between my ISP and plex.tv, the certificate is not able to be resolved.
I configured and started the vpn on the router
stopped and started Plex Media Server on my Synology
went through the steps for ‘Reclaiming a lost server’ - this time when I clicked ‘Claim Server’ it worked straight away.
I tested Plex on various devices - it’s all back to normal.
I disconnected the VPN on my router and stopped/started Plex Media Server on my Synology - Plex still works on all devices I tested.
My guess is that Plex Media Server periodically fetches some sort of token/flag from plex.tv. Due to the certificate error, it was unable to complete that action and it all stopped working.
As I now have a workaround for the issue - I consider this issue resolved.
Just to give some additional info - these 3 lines in the Plex Media Server.log also supports my hypothesis for the issue:
