1.18.4.2153 - Upgraded and now Plex Media Server is Gone!

I just downloaded and upgraded 1.18.4.2153 and now I cannot find the Plex Media Server icon anywhere on the start menu, nor are the program files present in C:\Program Files (x86). My OS is Windows 10 Pro for Workstations 1909 and I upgraded from 1.18.3.2156.

I went to the Announcements section for Plex Media Server to see if this was an intended change, however there are no release notes for 1.18.4.2153. Was this version released by mistake? How I do recover from this without the need for a full system restore?

This just happened to me as wellā€¦ Running Windows Server 2016ā€¦ After hitting ā€˜install updateā€™, it appears that it completely uninstalled Plex Media Serverā€¦ All icons are gone. The Plex Media Server folder was deletedā€¦

I hope somebody sees this and STOPS that update from hitting anybody else!!!

Same here, Windows 10ā€¦Plex gone. Did a restore and downloaded Plex server 1.18.3.2156 and everything is back. Kill this update!!

as an fyi more than anything else ā€“ iā€™m running Fedora 31 and upgraded from plexmediaserver-1.18.3.2156-349e9837e.x86_64 to plexmediaserver-1.18.4.2153-2aa83397b.x86_64 without any problems ā€“ could be a windows specific issue

i did however find the bld numbers odd 3.2156 vrs 4.2153 but as i say upgrade went fine

Iā€™m hoping that someone from the PMS team sees this thread and produces a newer build installer that just ā€œfixesā€ the problem rather than my using system restore as other programs were apparently updated automatically around the same time and would be affected by a restore point recovery.

Hey folks running on Windows OS - Grab the update Plex places into the ā€œupdatesā€ folder and rerun setup. I was given the option to ā€œrepairā€. This option resolved my issue. I donā€™t recall the default folder, but itā€™s something like \PlexData\Plex Media Server\Updates\1.18.4.xxx\packages

Same here, I re-downloaded the latest version of Plex server from their website and when I ran it, I got the option to ā€œrepairā€, I did and now Iā€™m back up, everything looks fine and the version is the latest.

I was afraid to do this as I worried that I might lose data. But thank you for testing and confirming it to be safe. :grin:

Seems like a bug in the Windows Installer logic in that build.

macOS doesnā€™t seem to exhibit this issue. Upgrade went fine.

Makes sense that Linux and MacOS wouldnā€™t be affected as this appears to be a Windows Installer logic bug. Also, this post was tagged with server-windows. But thanks for chiming in.

The {xxxxxxxxx} folder might be differentā€¦ but thatā€™s where I found it on my machineā€¦ kick off the pms application, it asks for the downloaded update fileā€¦ chose ā€˜Repairā€™ā€¦ seem to be back up and runningā€¦

Reinstall it from the `updatesā€™ folder instead.
