1.32.1.6999 not adding new episodes/shows for TV

It is not necessary to restart Plex Media Server after enabling verbose logging within the Advanced General Server Settings. However, when providing diagnostics for a problem, it is always best to start with a fresh restart of the server so that new log files get created and the logs would also cover up the startup sequence - which is useful to see for problem investigations

For Downloading the logs - yes easiest option is to use the Plex Web Troubleshooting and Help UI to download the logs. If you do it manually - you would need to copy the Logs and Logs\PMS Plugin Logs folders manually out and zip the copy as zipping skips ā€œopenā€ files

And when disabling logging - some do not take effect until a restart

I have this issue as well. A quick fix for me was to change the scanner to Plex Series scanner (from the new Plex TV series).

Thank you for doing the test - I have now referred this to the server development team

Do you know if this only arises when using a UNC path ?

I’m using only local hard drives drives, no UNC paths. I think a saw somebody else in this thread also mention that they were using local drives.

Does the changing of the scanner for a library have any side effects that you know of? I’m kind of hesitant to change the scanner if that would for example maybe reset any data like whether someone has watched an episode or something. Would not make sense if that happened, but I just don’t want to take a step that I might regret later… Thx

When switched from new to old, it encounters some differences when it comes to watch history. What I did is revert to the ā€œnewā€ one and all is good (correct watch history is displayed) and the new episodes are there. The fix is not permanent and after some time same episodes disappear.

Yeah, oke, so switching to the old scanner makes the episodes appear in the db, then switching back to the new scanner still shows them. But then when Plex decides to re-scan the library or a folder, episodes may disappear again because the new scanner thinks that some episodes are not there, even if they are. Makes sense. I’ll see if I want to do this or not.

If the logs provided clearly show a bug, what is a common timeline for a fix in Plex Media Server? Anyone have any experience with that? If that would take 3 months, I would definitely need a temporary solution. If it would take a week or two for a fix to be available, I may not take the chance of screwing up my watch history and what not.

The only diagnostics I have are for a case with UNC paths…

Yeah, sorry, I was going to create logs this weekend & that didn’t happen. I have people using the server right now, I’ll create logs later tonight.

Plex Media Server Logs_2023-05-08_21-16-14.zip (4.3 MB)

  • First I changed the filedate of 7 episode files
  • Then I moved 2 files from the folder to a folder outside of the library
  • And then I copied these files back to this same location

For example, in the ā€œPlex Media Server.logā€ file, look for ā€œSeason 4ā€, you’ll find them. Files are stored on a local harddisk T:.

Thanks - I added your diagnostics to the issue I referred to the development team

Yesterday, after updating to a new Plex server, library started to update and it put all of my TV shows, episode by episode with no metadata to a Movies library.

So now, TV Shows library works as it should, with complete metadata but at the same time, all the episodes are scattered in the Movies library.

Anyone else experiencing this and knows how to fix it?

Just wanted to add its still the same in the new version 1.32.2.7002

I’m also experiencing the same issue with 1.32.2.7002. Running a local Windows server.

Yeah, I’m also still seeing the issue with 1.32.2.7002, but I guess that was to be expected. Dev team is just looking into the issue with traces etc, so I wouldn’t expect a fix to be available yet. Hoping it will be soon though :-).

New twist: I just happened to run into the following post:

It says that with with TV Series, the latest version of Plex stops picking up new episodes (is what I, and other in this thread, experience), but also that existing episodes dissappear (not seeing that). But also (drumroll) that when you rename the episode file to all lower-case, the episode does get picked up. And that works! They also mention that you have to put a number at the end of the filename, but I’m not seeing that. Anyway, I’ve been changing a couple of filenames to all lower-case and they’re now showing up in the library, so at least I’m good until a final fix comes along. @sa2000 Maybe it would be good to go over the forums to search for recent threads that are about issues in TV Series library/scanner and try to create a bigger picture for the Dev team. Cheers!

Now that I’m renaming some episodes I came across a show where I’ve watched the first few episodes of the latest season, but these episodes had disappeared from the library. Now that I’m renaming them (all lower case), they’ve reappeared, but with correct watch history, as in, it marks them as already having watched. So I guess the remark in the other thread about episodes disappearing is something I seem to have experienced as well.

I had that exact issue… it didnt just ignore new episodes… it removed previous episodes too… if i started the library with the old agent/scanner and upgraded the library to the new agent/scanner and then added some new episode it removed everything from the library… so it just ended up lookin empty in Plex… with the files still in the folder on the harddrive… everything works fine with the old agent/scanner… so i’m not gonna update to the new one until its confirmed fixed

Yes… renaming it to all lowercase seems to resolve it… Uppercase seems to be f*ckin something up for the new agent/scanner

I noticed something similar, but in my tests it sufficed to put ā€˜S’ and ā€˜E’ to lowercase in ā€œSXXE0YYā€ for the episodes to appear.
