Newly added movies don't appear in Plex

I’ve been adding some movies lately and have found 2 that are in the proper folder but do not get recognized by Plex. One does show up under other ways to watch, and the other doesn’t appear at all. They do match the name & (date) in themoviedb. What else can I look for to figure this out?

What are the titles you’re having trouble with?

Have you looked to see if those movies have been matched as a duplicate with another movie you already had in your library?

Other ways to watch is probably showing you a copy on another service who has the movie available to stream, not your copy

Duplicates showed nothing. One of the movies did get added, the other still has problems.

Can you post your server logs? Might be a permissions issue or something else we can spot.

Some things to try:

  1. Sort the library by date added, so the most recently added movies appear first. That can help if the movie is being incorrectly recognized and added under a different name.

  2. The file is an MP4. If Plex is configured to use local metadata and that metadata is incorrect, it can throw off Plex’s ability to correctly match movies.

    Use Subler to verify and, if needed, modify any embedded metadata.

    Unless needed, disable reading of embedded metadata.
    If using the Plex Movie agent/scanner:
    Edit the library
    Choose Advanced
    Deselect Prefer local metadata
    Save Changes & refresh the library metadata.

  3. Add the TMDB ID to the file name.
    Then Plex Dance the movie.
    A Matter of Life and Death (1946) {tmdb-28162}.mp4

I tried that title and for one reason or another it’s matching but the name is different.

It matches to a movie named “Stairway to Heaven”

It has the same synopsis so it appears to be the same movie.

Don’t know exactly why that’s happening but I think that’s why you can’t find it

Good catch.

Looks like the movie has been renamed.

IMDB has it as Stairway to Heaven, and immediately underneath it says “Original title: A Matter of Life and Death.”

SOLVED THANKS TO ALL. It seems that A Matter of Life and Death is the British name, and Stairway to Heaven is the US Name.
