Accessing server with TV app

Server Version#:1.45.0.3013-1676042f
Player Version#: where’s the info?

Hi all, my issue is this - when I try to open the Flex server on my LG TV it won’t open, I get can’t connect to server… it has the correct IP.

If I then go to my phone (Android) open the Plex app it says ‘Can’t connect to server’ however I give it a few seconds and my Library categories pop up and I can browse my media.

Then I go back to my LG TV and start Flex app and it connects fine, I can browse my media.

As a background to this, I can get Plex on my Mobile when outside of my network but I cannot connect to my server via a browser when not on my network.

I have enabled Remote Access, tried Static IP and DHCP, made a Manual Port Forward rule on my router, enable insecure connections. The server says its contactable outside my network but then when I try it won’t connect and sometimes the Plex server reports its not available outside my network even though I enabled it. So I go in and disable and re-enable it and its fine for a few days then reports its uncontactable.

Maybe the two issues are linked - perhaps my BT router is doing something weird? I understand their is DNS Binding going on to overcome limitations.
Perhaps my router is causing these issues?

If you’ve set up a manual port forward, have you also disabled UPnP?

tried Static IP and DHCP

If you’ve set a static IP for your server did you also reserve this IP address in your router?

So I go in and disable and re-enable it and its fine for a few days then reports its uncontactable.

This happened to me a lot when I had UPnP enabled in my router. The only fix was to power cycle my router.

Thanks for adding more - no I did not disable uPnP so maybe that affected it.

Nor did I use a static IP in the resreved range in router. I have now.

I think UPnP is still enabled on router and I do have a Port Forward rule set up.

Don’t seem to be having any probs?

Should I try setting up ‘as standard’ now I’m using correct static IP address? Delete the port rule and let Plex discover connection?

Nice work that should avoid any IP conflicts in future

There shouldn’t be any issues with this but I would disable UPnP anyway so you can rule it out. Keep your port manually forwarded.

You mention you can’t access your server via browser when outside your network. Can you confirm you’re accessing via the Plex.tv link on this page?

I can now connect externally, I was trying at work - just because it was the most convenient way to test - but it seems the company security policy was blocking it.

If I use a company laptop connected to staff wifi I can connect with browser.
