Actors with minor roles missing from search filter dropdown

Server Version#: 1.22.3.4392
Player Version#: 4.56.4

When filtering by Actor in a library, either by using All > Actor or All > Advanced Filters, some actors do not appear in the list to select. The dropdown list contained 1452 actors and, by checking the database, I found that this corresponded to those actors who are one of the first 3 listed for at least one movie.

The search filters don’t allow manually typing of the name of an actor who doesn’t appear in the list, making it impossible to filter on actors who have only minor roles in all the movies in a library.

Was having the exact same issue now that they’ve introduced Smart Collections (which I really like, by the way…except for the missing actors). Thanks for figuring out their filter query is only the first 3 listed. I hope this will be addressed.

I actually found an easy workaround for now if you want to create a Smart Collection for just a single actor if you know at least 1 movie they are in:

  • Click on a movie with that actor
  • Click on that actor in the cast list
  • This should bring up a list of the movies they are in, but with no options to save as a Smart Collection
  • Add &advancedFilters=1 to the end of the address in the address bar to convert this to an Advanced Filters search
  • You can now save this as a Smart Collection

Now you tell me! I was creating fake movie XML/NFOs in order to get the actor onto the advanced filter picklist, I like your way much, much better.

Cheers!

Ah ha, I created this a while ago but I think what you guys are describing is the root cause of my issue Advanced filter missing an actress
