At this point, with such huge issues with basic functionality like syncing broken (a must-have feature for me), and absolutely no response from Plex, I’ve moved on to Emby media server instead of Plex.

But syncing music isn’t the only issue I’ve experienced with Plex - I’ve also had nothing but problems when attempting to use the Plex Android app when out and about, again with just basic functionality: after pausing a song and getting out of the car to run an errand, going to resume playback will sometimes work, sometimes not. Half the time the app just becomes unresponsive or just won’t start playing music again, until I restart the phone. I’ve even had issues with the Plex Windows app and the Android app just stopping playback randomly, while inside my home connected via WiFi to my local server. Unacceptable.

My wife just straight up refused to use the Plex app any longer after trying it a couple times and having nothing but problems.

Emby has pretty similar functionality, is maybe a bit less polished, but where it wins is just basic functionality: syncing, streaming on the go, pausing and resuming songs…all just works. Couple of minor issues, but nothing I couldn’t work around. Every option has issues, but the many Plex issues are just too much to deal with.

Emby developers are also VERY active in the support forums. But so far, not a peep from Plex devs, even after this post has been up for a month and a half, and has 17 other people saying they’re experiencing the same issues. Plex seems to be much more interested in adding features, instead of fixing broken basic functionality. New features are nice, but not at the expense of just fixing basic bugs that widely affect lots of people.

I’m just glad I only signed up for the month-to-month Plex Pass and didn’t waste my money on the lifetime or yearly version.

Not really adding anything much except to say I’m having the same issue with a Samsung S20 and Android 10 .

My iPad Pro seems to work on and off and my old iPhone 6S is having the same issues. Recently had an iPhone X which was working (until the phone stopped working).

Started using PlexAmp as a workaround and it’s OK but it’s not as pleasant to use in offline mode as the native app is.

I have been paying subscriptions fees and am happy to keep contributing to encourage development and bug fixes as I think it’s a great product that suits my needs and I don’t want to go back to the early days of Media Servers.

Would very much like to see Plex respond with recognition and some hope of a future patch.

same issue here with Note 20 Ultra - ARGH!

I’m having the same issue. It seems like it cycles through all the songs in the smart playlist and spams the ā€œAn error occurred while playing this itemā€. After about 2 minutes, it seems like the smart playlist somewhat works. It is worth noting that I have 3 smart playlists all utilizing filters for song ratings.

Anyone on the Plex team to comment on this topic please???

Unable to literally listen to music for two weeks now, while driving/traveling etc. because of this stupid sync/playing bug. This is the functionality that I bought the Plex pass for.
It’s mostly frustrating because of the fact that we can’t solve it, something in the app is not right.

It feels helpless, why hasn’t there been someone commenting on this from the Plex team yet!

That’s the only reason I bought a lifetime plan as well. I’ve seen also people complaining about Plex support in other forums many times, like on Reddit. Unfortunately, I don’t feel secure yet to get rid of my other music player and podcast player, which I have been using for years and never had issues. Today I also noticed that a podcast that I manually added (it has a personal RSS feed link) disappeared and I am unable to add it back to the list. Plexamp is nice if you’re only playing songs directly from the server as even when you play a downloaded album and want to browse that album (go to Album option) you need to be connected to the server, and there is no sync feature yet, cannot sync an artist for instance.

Anxiously waiting for this to be resolved.

Okay why bother paying for a plex pass if there isn’t going to be even the suggestion of support?

I’ve been experiencing this problem for over 2 weeks, and the start of this thread is over 1 month old and not even a peep from developers over it?

I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I’ve gone through the steps to delete synced content. Nothing that has been synced will play on my phone, even after telling it to delete local files. With no response from the devs at all there’s no other steps for me to take other than to find another program to host my audio library. Very much regretting a lifetime pass.

I’ve just cancelled my Plex Pass, and I uninstalled the Plex server from my computer last night. Good luck to everyone else getting Plex to pay attention to this issue!

I’ve moved on to Emby media server. It’s way better, I highly recommend it! And it actually just works right - imagine that.

I made sure to let Plex know the exact reasons I was cancelling.

Same issue here as everyone else. Google Pixel 4 latest build of Android 10 and latest security patch. Seems like I can play the synced music if I browse to it by going to menu > Downloads and Sync > Music > Selecting the file. However, when I try to stream the same media from the server I get the same result as everyone else. Log stating:

08-28 17:23:20.402 i: Showing toast: An error occurred while playing this item.
08-28 17:23:20.405 i: [Player][Timeline] Player error not known by server, reporting original player error (or a playback interrupted one)
08-28 17:23:20.405 i: [Player] Error reported: TransientError (null)
08-28 17:23:20.405 i: [Player][Timeline] Playback stopped (error: false)
08-28 17:23:20.406 i: [PlaybackTimeBehaviour] Time: 0 IsStarted: false

Would be super nice to get a resolution to this.
