I put things on hold for a a few days, and when I came back, the problem still persists.
How is it that I can stream music files from my server, but when I try syncing the songs, even while synchronizing them, my android app says that I do not have an internet connection?
Being that I am streaming, I am already connected, so how can the app not see the same connection?
As suggested after writing to the general info email, I needed to post my logs form my phone and server.
This is supposed to show where the errors occurs, and hopefully lead to an explination.
Can any one from the support team get back to me in order to give me clues as to how to fix my inability to synchronize my music?
Podcasts work.
The error says that I have no connection. But, I tried the synchronization while streaming music from the same server. I even tried it with out streaming music.
I look forward to some feedback that will lead to me fixing the errors.
I think I have the same error on my Android Device.
I can play music directly from my server, but synchronization is not possible.
I have reinstalled the Plex App and erased the data, but no change at all.
Better late than never.
Here are my logs …
What I also noticed when I play an Mp3 with the Android app after synchronizing. Does the information indicate that it is an MKV container?
It would be really nice if someone from the plex team had a look on this.
Hey, I was just recently alerted to this thread. Sorry that you haven’t gotten an answer before. I looked over your logs and it shows that the device is trying to get the sync information but receiving 0 data back. It looks like the identifier for your device changed so it’s asking for the wrong information.
Can you try the following steps?
from Plex Web, delete any Sync jobs related to your Android device
from the authorized devices page, remove the Android device
on the Android app, clear the app data
restart the Android app
find the file to sync
select download
Do you see an error? If not, wait 1 minute then check the sync status page. If it hasn’t synced or you got an error, get me a new log from the app.
I thought sync wasn’t working, so how did you play the file? I looked at your Android log and it shows you synced 1 file and it worked. Can you provide more details on what issue you are having?
Synchronization works, but I cannot play the local files. Play directly from the server works.
As I already wrote, when playing the synchronized MP3 file, the information says it is an MKV container.
Ok. If you are having the issue mentioned in that thread, a fix was supposedly made for it in 8.6.0. Your logs showed you are on 8.5.2. Update to 8.6.0 and see if you still have the problem.
ITS WORKING !!! Finally its working for me! I have mostly FLAC files in my collection. Tried it again today. Before it wouldnt transcode my FLACs and let me sync then only did the mp3s (very few) would allow me to sync/download. . but now it finally transcodes them and downloads them to my Android phone!!
Here is my setup
Samsung Galaxy S9+ : Android version 10
Server: Western Digital MyCloud EX2 Ultra
PMS version: 1.20.1.3252
Android App - Plexamp version 3.2.0
Settings on the Plexamp app:
Downloads - Quality = Maximum
Download Location = External storage (SD card)
Refresh Downloads = ON
I was playing around and trying different things and it was working and then not and now its working so… not sure if this is an updated app that fixed it or the Plex side that fixed it as Ive been running on the same PMS server version for a few weeks now.
Anyways so so glad it works as this was a HUGE pain when paying for Plex Pass $$ and not getting the full benefits
If anyone else has been having issues, try it again.
Here are the steps I use:
Make sure wi-fi (for me) or cell data is ON
Go to 2nd icon (music note) on bottom of Plexamp
then Albums
then pick one you want
Click on the 3 dots on the top right side and click DOWNLOAD
A yellow circle should appear in the 4th icon at the bottom and do a count down and when its done the yellow circle will dissapear
then turn OFF your wifi or cell data to test
then go tothe download icon (4th icon) on the bottom and you should see your album that you downloaded
play it and VOILA!!!
Oh and for the normal Plex app for Android (version 8.6.0.xxxx) I just tried it as well and it worked!!
very cool
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU PLEX TEAM!!!
Quick Update…
After getting it to work just now, I got it to NOT WORK again as well.
It looks like my server is NOT transcoding down to a lower res and wont. It will only let me sync/download the original/full quality of whatever file is on my server HDDs (mostly FLACs), which is fine but just need ot have a larger SD card in my phones external storage slot.
Dont know why it wont trasncode. I know my server wont transcode MOVIES because its not powerful enough but these are MUSIC files and thats the only thing I use Plex for so…
the WD MyCloud EX2 Ultra does have that ability to transcode but dont know why its not.
any ideas?
My settings on the “Downloads” settings page of the Plexamp ap are as follows:
Quality = Maximum (anything else doesnt work and doesnt let me sync)
Download Location = External Storage
Download on Cellular = OFF ( I dont have an unlimited data plan)
Prefer Downloaded media= ON CELLULAR (I still dont understand what this setting really means but since I only use my Plex if there is wifi available it doesnt matter, hense why I want sync to work so I dont need wifi signal to listen to music if i can sync some albums. Dont know why we can sycn songs as well instead of just full albums??)
Refresh Downloads = ON
I would love to save some space and downres transcode to MP3 320 or 256 sometimes if possible but at least for now I can take some music on my drives if I want to.
I’m having the same issue as the OP. I was able to sync a bunch of music files to my Android device, but the sync’d files won’t play. I am still able to stream and play un-sync’d music files though. All my music files are MP3s and they were sync’d in their Original format.
My mobile device is a Samsung S9, music files are sync’d to an SD Card. I’m assuming the issue has to be with the mobile app, since the sync’d songs are saved to my mobile device and shouldn’t have anything to do with the server?
Not sure if anybody ever found a fix for this issue?
I’m not sure why the music file is converted from MP3 to MKV when it is synced to the mobile device, but I wonder if that’s part of the issue?
I also tried to sync the files with different quality settings, from 96k to original. Made no difference. This seems like a pretty big bug though, if 0% of music files can be played after they’ve been synced.
This helped me to fix the issue of new synced songs won’t play. Thanks !
The key thing here was probably removing the Android device and delete all sync jobs as had cleared data, deleted app and restarted mobile and installed app before and it did work.
This appears to have started occurring again - Tablet Samsung S7+ and Phone Samsung S20+.
Error appears to be the same as before and following the delete sync, remove from authorised devices, remove content, uninstall and restart process, no changes.
