Seems like I’ve been having a lot of issues myself with Plex, lately. First the new Plex agent, and now this. I was hoping to sync my music so I could use Plex on my Android Auto device, and I’m having this same issue, unfortunately.
At this point, it’s starting to look like Plex is getting far too ahead of themselves, and have let quality control slip, significantly.
Please, guys… Fix this. This is so very disappointing, and as a devoted Plex fan and lifetime pass owner, this is becoming a huge letdown.
Not going to add much other than that I’m still seeing this not work on my pixel 2. Fresh install - clear cache, storage etc - I try to sync an album to my device. It appears to work, then if I try and play I’ll get an error message. If I quit and come back, the tracks are all missing.
Very annoying that this has been broken for so long. It would be a huge problem if I wasn’t stuck at home during the pandemic.
I also have this issue with Smart Platlists on Plex Android 8.6.0.20351, although quite honestly they have never worked on any phone I have ever have… not really sure why I paid for Plex in the end as Plex development have never corrected this.
Using an S10+ I can download a smart playlist to my phone.
However the smart playlist remains empty, whether connected to the server or not.
If i play the smartlist now on the server (from my phone app) it generates an error message for each song it plays, and goes through all the songs quickly saying " An error occurred while playing this item”. The only way to get the playlist working again is to delete it from the synced content.
Plex devs. Please, for the love of god, do something about this. Issues with sync and download have been plaging Plex since I first became a Plex Pass holder in 2016 or 2017. It has never worked, and is the main selling point of Plex Pass for many people.
Now no albums play at all that were downloaded offline, whether connected to internet and server or not :-(. I have reset app cache and data and reinstalled Plex, but the result is the same. Whether offline or online and connected to the server, downloaded “synced” items produce the error message and then goes into the next song which also produces an error message. The only way I can listen to the albums is to delete them from my phone and then listen to them online.
Exact same behavior here.
8.6.0.20351 - Amazon Appstore
Thought my SD card may be at end of life or something, but nope. Jellyfin performs the same task flawlessly.
I saw that my App updated to 8.7.0.20853, so I tried if this is fixed… Nope still doesn’t work.
It has been months and they even recognized the problem and tried to fix it in 8.6. This is getting ridiculous.
Still not working for me . i am on the newest update . i also thought that it could be the sd card so i tred the internal sorage but same there. i am on a galaxy s8
I also have this problem on my client app. LG G7 ThinQ (LG-G710ULM), Android 9. Plex version 8.7.2.20952
I have about 33GB of music synced from my Plex server. When playing the music synced to my phone (on my SD card, not internal storage) the music plays fine for the most part, but randomly will stop playback, and if I switch back to the Plex app, it flashes “An error occurred while playing this item”.
This has happened both while playing in the background (using other apps in the foreground), and when the Plex app is open and displaying the music player. Going back into my synced content and choosing the song again starts it playing, and so far every time the app has no issues completing the song the second time.
- from Plex Web, delete any Sync jobs related to your Android device
- from the authorized devices page, remove the Android device
- on the Android app, clear the app data
- restart the Android app
- find the file to sync
- select download
This appears to have started occurring again - Tablet Samsung S7+ and Phone Samsung S20+.
Error appears to be the same as before and following the delete sync, remove from authorised devices, remove content, uninstall and restart process, no changes.
