Hello, since around 8/28 it seems that my PMS is unable to stream video to Android devices outside my local network. Using my Android phone to test through mobile data, I am able to pull up the Plex app and navigate menus but clicking any video results in a black screen with a spinning circle that will never load the video.
Connecting remotely through a web browser continues to work, music can still be streamed through the app, and Plexamp works normally when connected remotely. I have noticed that if I adjust the video quality to “convert automatically” the video will play audio normally but the video shows a green screen with garbled artifacting. My parents seem unaffected by these issues, connecting to my PMS through their LG Smart TV but my other friend using a Shield is unable to play any video remotely.
Plex shows that my library is accessible normally outside my network and I manually forwarded port 32400 but nothing has changed yet.
Any feedback or ideas would be much appreciated, thanks
Rolled back my Android app version to 9.29.0.3427 to see if that might resolve the issue but still having the exact same behavior. I would try rolling back my PMS version but it I’m holding off on that for as long as I can because it would most likely involve rebuilding my library in Plex from scratch.
Can confirm.
Remote access using iOS App, PlexAmp for Android or Web Browser works fine, just the Android Plex app is causing issues. Maybe something related to nginx reverse proxy or “Let’s encrypt” certificate, but nothing changed (Besides PMS and App updates) and had no luck finding the root cause yet.
Digging trough the logs did also not help due to my lack of expertise.
Thanks for your feedback, it does look like something happened to the Android apps recently. I’ve also seen hardware encoding issues have impacted the Shield recently when running PMS. Although I haven’t been able to fix it correctly, I’ve found that disabling hardware transcoding on the Shield PMS can at least allow remote sharing to Android devices at the moment, though not ideal.
I have the same problem. My server dashboard states everything is accessible. Port forwarding is configured correctly on my router but still nothing. My friend shares his library with me but I have noticed that it also is only available via my local lan? When outside my lan no servers are available and show as offline.
@ChuckPa are there any known issues with the current release of the Android app or PMS through Nvidia Shield that you know of that could be causing issues with remote access?
For my case at least, it seems that the Shield PMS is having issues hardware transcoding and/or the Android app is unable to accept a hardware transcoded stream. I’ve had to disable hardware transcoding on my Shield PMS to try to get this working in the meantime. I’d be happy to supply some logs if this seems like a new issue, thanks
