Server Version#: 1.22.2.4256
Player Version#: 1.30.0.2105-43a11204
I’ve just updated my Plex for Windows to 1.30, on my desktop machine, and noticed a slight bug with the back navigation.
Scenario One
Load Plex for Windows
Navigate to Live TV & DVR - The Guide is my default tab
Press the Back button - The Live TV & DVR library simply reloads and the Back button is still enabled
I expected the navigation to take me to the Home page and disable (grey out) the Back button.
Scenario Two
Similar to scenario one but with an addition library.
Restart Plex for Windows
Navigate to Live TV & DVR - The Guide is my default tab
Navigate to Movies - Libraries in my default tab
Press the Back button - The Movies library simply reloads and the Back button is still enabled
I expected the navigation to take me to the Live TV & DVR library and if I could press it again I would expect to be taken back to the Home page and for the Back button to be disabled.
Scenario Three
Restart Plex for Windows
Navigate to Live TV & DVR - The Guide is my default tab
Navigate to the DVR Schedule tab
Press the Back button - I am returned to the Guide tab as expected
Press the Back button again - I am returned to the DVR Schedule tab
I expected the navigation to take me to the Home page and for the Back button to be disabled. If I then press the Back button again the Live TV & DVR library simply reloads staying on the DVR Schedule tab.
Notes:
My laptop still has 1.29 installed and the problem is present there as well so I don’t know how long this has been an issue.
The Web Client 4.51.3 (on localhost) and 4.54.4 (at plex.tv) appears to behave as I expected navigating back to the correct tabs, libraries and eventually the Home page - tested with Microsoft Edge (Chromium).
@deactivated: I have just upgraded to v1.34.1.2590-74ea7099 and it appears that navigation is broken again - worse than the changes from v1.33 mentioned in my last post:
Scenario One
Load Plex for Windows
Navigate to Live TV & DVR - The Guide is my default tab
Navigate to Movies - Libraries in my default tab
Press the Back button - The navigation briefly changes to Live TV & DVR and the Guide tab shows before being returned to the home page
Press the Back button - Like step 4 the navigation bar changes to Live TV & DVR and the Guide tab briefly shows but again the home page reloads
Goto 5 - This then loops infinitely (or until I give up)
Scenario Two
Restart Plex for Windows
Navigate to Live TV & DVR - The Guide is my default tab
Navigate to the DVR Schedule tab
Press the Back button - Like scenario one, the navigation bar briefly changes to Live TV & DVR and the Guide tab shows before being returned to the home page
Press the Back button - As per step 4 the home page reloads
Goto 5
Plex Web v4.63.0 works mostly as expected - except it doesn’t record the history of changing tabs now
I also just upgraded to Plex for Windows 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099 and noticed an annoying problem with the Back button that wasn’t there in the previous version:
start the Plex client
go to the Music library (sorted by Artist)
click on one artist to see the list of albums for that artist
click the “back” button
In this latest version, this goes back all the way to the home screen.
Previously it would only go back to the previous screen (the Music library), which was the correct behavior.
Yeah, no matter what I do, the back button always takes me back to Home. Visually, I see the previous tab I had navigated to be selected, then it flashes back to selecting HOME and displaying its contents. Same if I were to navigate to a song, or use Live TV and DVR sub-categories, or anything really.
Using the mouse side buttons (buttons 4 and 5) to navigate forward and back as you do in browsers still works properly though.
So I got the update today that (the one that changed the background to blue) and not only is it horribly slow/laggy compared to how it used to be but the back arrow button seems to be broken and always sends me back to the main plex home instead of the last thing I was browsing through. (Example, I was looking through my list of movies, click on a movie to read about it then click the back arrow and instead of going back to where I was at when I was scrolling through the movies it sends me back to my plex home with “continue watching” and “recently added” stuff.) No matter where I’m at, whenever I click that arrow it plops me back to the main screen. Can anyone else check this out?
Same here, running Version 1.34.1.2590-74ea7099 on Mac Mini Big Sur, the back button just defaults to Home section, which makes the whole browsing media experience terrible.
Update: Just chatted to a friend. His updated this morning. If the update was pulled, it still managed to update today. So it sounds to me that the app must have downloaded the update last time he ran the app the other day, and actually installed the update on starting up today.
Anyway, he doesn’t like the broken “back” button that much, but when I pointed out the laggy UI, he says he doesn’t notice. He’s a friend, not a managed user (like I run as), so it’s possible the UI lagginess is related to being a managed user vs a friend. Or it’s just some quirk of computer setups, and his comp happens to run it just fine.
Same issue with the back button here too. Takes me back to the home page.
I’d also like to point out since this update the interface is appallingly choppy. It seems a lot slower and laggy and generally performing poorly compared to what it was.
I really would like to point out how appallingly this interface runs compared to the previous UI iteration. It now just lags scrolling through content. There also seems to be almost a second delay between clicking a library and the UI even responding and beginning to load anything. I use Plex daily and this is going to irritate me incredibly because I know it’s not functioning to the quality that I have become accustomed to.
I wish I could roll it back and avoid the update but it was pushed on me once I opened the app. Plex web is, better. But it was never as snappy as the desktop app.
horrible horrible update. It didn’t even ask me if i wanted the update, it just wanted admin rights at startup and now 1.34 is installed. Within very short time of use i can confirm its MUCH slower, the back button is fubar, AND direct play doesn’t work anymore - there is no video quality select when playing file, only audio. It transcodes video in 2mbit even though its set to max in settings. Would appreciate not being a guinea pig just because im a plex passer (it seems update 1.34 is/was only for plex passers?)
It also seems 1.34 has been removed from download page so thats good. Maybe plex should make a PSA about it telling us all they messed up, and recommend a re-install.
How this update passed testing (if any) is beyond me.
Yep, same here. The newest version will take you to the home screen when you hit the back button, no matter where you are. You can be multiple pages deep and hit the back button and it will take you home instead of taking you back one page. I did notice that the back button on my mouse does wok correctly though; takes you back one page.
Exactly the same deal here buddy. Back button used to back out of a page being viewed, such as looking at a TV show at episodes etc, hit the “back” button expecting it to go back one step within the content I’m looking at but, it goes straight back to the main home page, which is more than a little annoying.
It’s become pretty much the exact same thing as hitting the “Plex” button next to it, that has always worked as a “Home” button.
Basically, the back arrow needs to be rectified to once again work as a “Back” arrow.
Same here. If I want to get back to the home page, I’ll click the Plex logo. I don’t ever want the back button to do anything other than go back to the last place I was.
On the side menu is the Home button, which takes you to the home page. Above that is the Plex logo, which also takes you back to the home page. Now the back button takes you to the home page. So you have three buttons right next to each other that all do the same exact thing.
