Bitstreaming Audio

On PMP (in Windows 10) is Bitstreaming automatic? is there a setting I seen to click?

I have read on the Intel Site “as long as you’re bitstreaming, the receiver will support it, and the file is encoded as Atmos/DTS:X, it will play.” - But can’t find a setting in PMP to ensure I am bitstreaming.

any enlightenment is welcome.

You go to settings->Audio->Device Select->HDMI->
Then select 7.1 and all the audio formats. Dolby True HD has Atmos format in it.

Exclusive mode is good to have on too. It makes it so Plex has audio priority. Handy to have on if using windows so it doesn’t make any sounds while watching a movie

Thanks, I assumed that was the case, and have it set that way, just wanted to double check that there was not a setting I missed (or something in windows, etc)

thanks

Is this no longer an option with the latest Plex Media Player on Windows 10? I don’t see it for either the store app or the desktop app.

Disregard - I found it.

You are most likely in desktop mode. Look for the icon in the top right area to switch to TV mode.

For the life of me, I can NOT find any audio preference!!

The preferences go from left to right, it’s not a list anymore. Help!

Dang, hit post too early.

The reason I’m looking for this is that all my TrueHD movies on Plex play as Dolby Digital + on my reciever.

I’m using a HDMI 1.4 reciever, the latest Win10 Plex app, and Win10 version 1709.

Are you in desktop web or tv mode?

Thanks for answering, but how do I know? Unfortunately, this doesn’t help.> @Achilles said:

Anyway you can post a screenshot of what I’m looking for?

Here’s what I’m seeing.

In the upper righthand corner there is the diagonal doubled ended arrow indictating full screen TV mode.

You are not using PMP at all.
This is the Plex for Windows app from the Microsoft app store. Whole different product.

That’s what I figured! I knew we couldn’t be talking about the same thing!

What is the PMP app? How does one get it? Does the Win app support bitstreaming?

PMP is available for download above.

The app store app doesn’t support bitstreaming (or if it does, only a few Codecs - I don’t know exactly)

Thanks Otto, sometimes I can’t see things in front of my face! :s

Now that I have the right app, I have another issue. I play a TrueHD movie, my receiver says TrueHD, but there’s no sound. I even tried switching to AC3, nothing.

Any clues?

Sorry, no idea. I have no TrueHD AVR to test with.

@roverny74 The fact that the receiver says TrueHD means PMP appears to be bitstreaming the audio properly. When you’re playing something with a TrueHD track, what does it show for audio when you hit the “i” key during playback?

Thanks all for your help so far!

Here you go:

ack! how about this

I have some more info.

Normally when I bitstream, using Movies&TV or MPC, I don’t have touch anything in Movies&TV and MPC I have to turn all the formats on, and it just works. It doesn’t matter what the “sound” control panel is set to.

For PMP, when I have the sound control panel set to xxbit, xxKHz, the audio will play, but the receiver says “PCM”. When I change the sound control panel to “Dolby Atmos for Home Theater”, the receiver says TrueHD, but no audio. It also doesn’t seem to matter if I have “allow applications to take exclusive control…” (WASAPI) checked or not.

Thus I’m thinking the sound control panel is where the issue lies, but not sure what to do.

I’m using the latest version of Win10, version 1709 (OS Build 16299.248) and Intel integrated GFX.
