OK, maybe it’s so obvious I’m missing it, but no matter how I rename Breaking Bad episodes, they will not appear using my Shield as the Plex server. I’ve had only one other show give me fits and it was Counterpart, which appeared and then disappeared. Literally every other TV show that I drop in my Television folder appears right after the folder updates… just not any season of Breaking Bad. Files are stored in a shared folder on a Windows 10 PC, with the Shield being the Plex server. This is the only issue that I’m having. All other movies, TV shows instantly appear, even when not named 100% correctly. I have completely emptied the Television folder, cleaned bundles, emptied trash, etc., and re-added the data. Still no joy. The episodes are stored as such:
\SERVER\Television\Breaking Bad\Breaking Bad Season 01\Breaking Bad - s01e01 - Pilot.mkv. Thanks for any advice.
Close to proper naming, but not quite right.
\SERVER\Television\Breaking Bad\Season 01\Breaking Bad - s01e01 - Pilot.mkv
would follow the preferred method for Plex. Using other naming structures sometimes works for a while, and then just suddenly quits.
Thanks for the quick advice. I emptied out the Television folder, renamed the Breaking Bad season folders and tried, again with your suggestion: \\SERVER\Television\Breaking Bad\Season 01\Breaking Bad - s01e01 - Pilot.mkv
. Still no items found by Plex in that folder. I may just try and rebuild everything if I can’t get this to work.
I don’t think rebuilding is necessary. But you will probably need to do the “Plex Dance” to get clear up the bad stuff Plex likes to hang onto, particularly for “Breaking Bad”
Is Television the root folder of your tv library?
or are you adding each show path, like ‘\Television\Breaking Bad’ ?
Also, you may want to put the year in the series name;
/TV/Breaking Bad (2008)/Season 01/Breaking Bad - s01e01 - Pilot.mkv
If you are still not getting any added, then you may have other issues going on.
OK, problem solved. My Television folder was on a partition in Windows that I believe had permission/stability issues, even after I thought I fixed everything.
When I removed all of the series folders from within the Television folder I just added season 1 .mkv files of BB without a master Breaking Bad folder and they started to show, but not all of them. Messy, but that made me suspect that there was an issue with that partition and how Plex was seeing the folder/file structure. I decided to create a different Television folder on my Media drive where my Movies folder lives - never had any issues there with movie files being recognized. It’s an external 8TB WD Drive with a shared Media folder. Plex TV Shows sees it like this: /storage/SERVER/Media/Television. Once I dumped Breaking Bad in there, it saw it immediately… Even some episodes that aren’t named exactly as they should be.
So I would suggest checking your Windows storage/permissions, and file naming convention, etc. thoroughly. Thanks to those who offered suggestions.
