I’ve been using Plex for years and I’ve had the occasional hiccup, but nothing this frustrating. Last week I bought the final season of Agents of SHIELD off Google Play and ripped it to put it on Plex. I have all previous 6 seasons in there flawlessly, always have. The second I dropped the last season in, it grouped the entire show into one season. It still recognizes the show and downloads a poster for it and the first season, but it refuses to find any additional seasons. I’ve done the Plex Dance multiple times, I’ve tried every agent, I’ve cleared the agent cache, I’ve changed naming schemes…I’m totally out of ideas.
Similarly, after last week’s episode of Lower Decks, Plex stopped gathering metadata for the episodes. It still recognizes the show, synopsis, actors, etc. But each episode is missing its name and description, and there are generic thumbnails there. Like with SHIELD, I am at a total loss here.
I finally got it to work tonight by putting all the files in the show folder instead of their respective season folder. I don’t know why that’s the fix, I’m just happy it’s fixed.
It’s now: Media/TV Shows/Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - 101 - Pilot. The same worked for Lower Decks. I’ll be interested to see if future shows require this precise scheme or if it’ll let me go back to business as usual.
No, it is not a fix. You were just lucky. The next trouble will be coming soon.
You need to use the Plex naming method for TV shows, as explained above. Or issues like this will crop up again and again.
The Plex naming is supposed to work.
Things you need to verify:
The tv show library is looking exactly at Media/TV Shows/. Not one folder level above, nor below that. You don’t add tv shows individually to the plex library. You just point it to the folder where all tv shows reside (but each within its individual subfolder).
