Bug: Movie "editions" cause severe playback latency, high cpu utilization, and playback failure

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621
Player Version#: Windows 1.82.2.4024-64f483f6 / Apple tvOS 8.28 (7384)

So recently I started to use the plex “editions” feature, article found here in the subsection “multiple editions”.

When adding a movie using this naming scheme, plex picks it up properly, but when playing back the file, it has incredibly high latency. On Windows client, it eventually does (direct) play after about 3 minutes, however on apple TV this same issue appears but the app seems to have a timeout of around 15-30 seconds, so that one gives up before it can actually play the file. Now here’s the weird part. If I rename the file (removing the edition tag), do the plex dance, so that plex updates the movie to the “standard” edition, it works fine. I can even rename it BACK to the edition that was previously having the issue, and now that works fine as well. Almost as if plex needs to have the original in my library at some point before I can use the edition.

See below for this particular files naming scheme:
A:\Movies\Watchmen (2009) {edition-Ultimate Cut}\Watchmen (2009) - {edition-Ultimate Cut}[Remux-2160p Proper][TRUEHD 5.1][HEVC][HDR10]-FRAMESTOR.mkv

I have left this file “bugged” and have chosen to not rename it yet for troubleshooting purposes, but I have confirmed with a dozen other movies that this is isolated to “editions” and is ALWAYS resolved by renaming the file to remove the edition tag, plex dancing, then naming the file back. Logs should be attached, but please let me know if I missed anything. This is my first time posting on these forums. Thanks.
