Calling To Otto Kerner's Help

Using Plex (or better, trying to use Plex) is like going to one of those amusement parks and going in a continuos psychological up and down. Dear Otto, after 4 months of struggle through asking your advice, reading articles and visiting forums I finally got to have the PMS on my WDmyCloud Home! I got this with your valuable help.
Then, Some of the titles appeared repeated and with help and my constant desire of getting it solved I finally arrived to solve it.
Just some hours later still feeling euphoric, everything disappeared because Plex cannot find my Server again down to depression. What’s happening now? I have nothing changed but Plex says to be unable to find my server!!! It seems that my connection is not secure! I’ve read everything i’ve found in the Forums and Articles, but, I can’ solve it. in one of the articles I’ve read: Enabling the ability to connect securely with your Plex Media Server is actually really easy. In fact, in a default installation, there isn’t even anything special you need to do, since things will already be set up for you. Which makes me feel even more inept!!! I conclude that I definitely am, and my age may help, but I can’t accept loosing and I know that I will go on struggling to recover all my media. That’s why I ask for your help even I recognise that you for sure must be tired of Plex users like me!
If I follow all the recommended paths in " https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/", I have many issues:
1rst. I don’t know the version of my server as I haven’t downloaded it because I have a WD My Cloud Home.
2nd.I Can’t find Settings > Server > Network therefore I cannot follow the explained process to get a secure connection.
3rd. made some unanswered posts to Forum, (in the World is Flat and also General issues) I’ve even contacted twice with DigiCert but they resend me to the mentioned Article.
So after the short lasting period of happiness after getting solved my Trouble with the Thumbnails my Server is still in Red and can’t do anything to change it to Green!
If you kindly see any option to solve it I would very much appreciate your help.

Sorry to hear you’re having problems.
Your server is running directly on your NAS device. It has nothing to do with your Mac.
On your Mac you are merely opening a web browser to see the Plex web app, which in turn is used to control the plex server on your NAS.

I can see that your server hasn’t been online since about a week.
Is your NAS device off, or malfunctioning?
Unfortunately I can’t tell you what to do with your NAS device, because I don’t have any hands-on experience with these types of NAS.

Do you at least see something when you open these URLs in your web browser?
http://192.168.1.139:8080
or
http://192.168.1.139:32400/web

No, I don’t think it is malfunctioning nor off.
How do you know the ip of my WD MyCloud Home is 192.168.1.139 ? It seemed to me it was 192.168.1.129
I have a program called “Fing” which is supposed to give me the ip of all the devices connected to my net and I thought 192.168.1.129 was MyCloud Home but after your mail I see that 192.168.1.139 is Plex Media Server: alvar iMac Server as you say. And it says it is connected with a green dot by its name.
That gives me a slight hope. But the port wasn’t 32.400 ?

Fortunately I have a copy of all the stuff in a WD Mybook

Do you think I should start from the beginning?

The port for Plex is always 32400

Does that mean you can see your server now or can’t you ?

Yes but in the program called “Fing” and it says that it was first seen on the net on 2nd Feb.
Curiously there is another item which was also seen in the net at that same day the one under ip 192.168.1.141 but I don’t know what is it referring to…

And which IP address is now shown for your NAS?

It seems to be the one you gave me 192.168.1.139

So what happens when you click on this link?
http://192.168.1.139:32400/web

After waiting about a couple of minutes appears a message saying:
Safari isn’t able to open this page.
Safari cannot open the page “192.168.1.139:32400/web” because the server that was located in this page does not respond.

Excuse me Otto, maybe I will say a silly thing , but what might happen if I disconnect the power cable of the WD My Cloud Home for a couple of seconds and replace it? Can it harm anything?

That is usually a bad thing. But I can’t know for sure, because as I said above: I don’t have any experiences with WD NAS devices.

If Plex is not responmding on this IP and port, then it is either not running or crashed or deleted.
But I cannot give you a hand there, because see above.

I don’t know what do you exactly mean by “not running” but I can assure you is not deleted and nor crushed either.
When you say that unpowering the unit is usually a bad thing, then if I want to disconnect it how should I do? I only know that way.

But, anyway, if you’re right my risk of disconnecting is close to zero, don’t you think?
I think I will try!

Hi alvico,

hope Otto will not mind if I ask you to try one more step. Click the link below and post here if it gives you any content…

Otto, I think the problem is over. My son always says that when something is not working, in most cases you can solve it by sutting the computer off and restart. That 5ime I think he was right.

Tomorrow I let you know.

I’ve already got to access to the server by unplugging the power of the WD MyCloud Home.
I’ve tried to follow your link but it says that it is not a private connection because the certificate does not corresponds to the right one.

Ah, sorted out then… I would maybe recommend asking someone tech savvy to set up DHCP reservation on your router for the server IP and then ditch the uPNP and set up manual port forward to server IP, I have found the uPNP to be glitchy on some routers, might be cause of your issue.

Hi Corwin, thanks for your interest. The problem is that, as english language is not my first language, there are too many expressions in your post that I don’t arrive to understand. Could you tell me in a easier way?
It seems to understand to me that you believe i should ask for help to an expert, but in my village I doubt to find someone able to deal with the IP’s UnPNP, and so on…
