Can I upgrade PMS to 1.25.6.5577 on Synology DSM 7?

Server Version#: 1.25.6.5577
Player Version#:

I am running latest Synology Diskstation Manager v. 7.0.1-42218. I have a notice that PMS v. 1.25.6.5577 is available for download. Can I install it? I have read that there are LOTs of issues, and I’m not sure if this Plex update will work on the latest DSM.

Hello!

Those are the same specs that I have. I recently updated my PMS to this version with the same DSM. So far, I have had no issues. I am not sure what concerns you may have.

… or what you’ve been reading about.
I suppose most horror stories might be related to the migration to DSM7 – though DSM7 appears not to be more stable and the migration path should be rather well documented.

Thanks for the verification.

I had a world of woe when I upgraded my DSM from 6 to 7 and then discovered PSM had several changes. I successfully installed the version DSM recommended, but when I unwittingly tried to update it to the latest version, it wouldn’t run and I couldn’t find a way to downgrade. That’s when I came to this forum and realized there were issues. Eventually I got to a stable version, but not before having corrupt database issues and having to re-configure and re-index all my libraries from scratch. So, let’s just say I’m a little nervous about upgrading.

Dude, I didn’t need to read anything. In fact, I wish I had. I have my own horror story to tell regarding PMS and DSM 6 to 7 upgrade.

@SomebodySysop

May I ask what the horror story upgrading Plex was? (since I wrote all that code)

I am not trying to insult the code. I’m just saying that I wasn’t aware there was a process to migrating PSM from Synology DSM 6 to 7. Had I known that, I’m sure my experience would have been much more smooth.

I just upgraded DSM, then discovered that I had to re-install Plex and add some new permissions. Then when I went to upgrade the PSM, it installed but didn’t run – at least at first. I’m not sure what I did because I didn’t document it, but I did get it running. But then I had to rebuild all my libraries from scratch. Then I noticed that Live TV and DVR stopped working (documented here: Error loading channels - #4 by SomebodySysop ), and eventually figured out it was because of a corrupted database that probably was damaged during this process. That took a few tries, but finally got it resolved.

All that said, had I come to this forum first and read the documentation on migration, I’m sure I would have saved myself a lot of headache. I just assumed the DSM upgrade would be turnkey for all the installed apps. Ooops.

So this is why I was a little nervous about trying to upgrade PSM again, and the reason for this post topic.

And if, in my frustration, I seemed to impugn the integrity of your work, I do really apologize. This “horror” story was entirely my own doing. It was just a tongue-in-cheek response to the earlier post about “horror stories”.

I didn’t think you were insulting.

I ask asking so that I know how to make it better.
