Cannot change episode thumbnail after episode number correction

Server Version#: 1.24.0.4930
Player Version#: N/A (seen on Hosted Plex Web 4.64.3)

So I added a few episodes of a show to Plex. I discovered afterwards that I apparently had the order of the episodes wrong. What was episode 3 should have been 4, and what was 4 should have been 3. I noticed because the thumbnail “poster” generated did not match the metadata “Episode name” and “summary” fields. So I went to my hard drive, and swapped the file names. The files now match the order on TheTVDB that the agent pulls from.

However, as far as Plex is concerned, a few files swapped around, but it doesn’t appear to have updated the thumbnail image. When I play what appears to be episode 3, it plays the correct file now, but the thumbnail it uses is for the other episode 4. Same with Episode 4, but it shows the thumbnail for episode 3.

I cannot seem to get Plex to rescan the episodes for “poster” or thumbnails. I tried telling it to scan the show. I tried telling it to refresh metadata. I tried removing the file and emptying trash (I hope to avoid doing a full “plex dance” on the entire library if I can avoid it). Every time I add it back in, the library checks for old metadata for the episodes and reuses them.

Any tips?

And just like that, after quite a while and doing an analysis/scan on the entire library, the show now has 3 posters for these two episodes. Two are incorrect, but one each now matches the episode itself. I might not have noticed the server generate the new poster earlier, or it finally made it.

I WAS expecting it to automatically change the poster to the most recently-generated thumbnail if the old poster was a thumbnail, but maybe it doesn’t change a poster ever?
