OK I was able to stop it, run it again, then go to incognito and put in http://192.168.7.211:32400/web?secure=0 and still doesn’t work
I would like you to now follow the steps in my FAQ #1 and retrieve the logs.
Since this is a fresh start, it will let me see everything from startup through first access attempt.
OK I think I did this right…Logs.zip (3.4 MB)
perfect. Give me a bit to go through them?
Sure thank you in advance!!
Your logs are showing me that your Synology routinely keeps losing internet access.

tells me the ethernet adapter is OFFLINE.
Is there a loose / damaged connector betwen the Synology and the modem/router ?
I have had problems with my ISP from time to time…however, I constantly use the server for other non-Plex things…been using it for last several hours while Plex is non-responsive. Plex worked fine for last few years until a week or so ago…and that’s when it went down. Even when down, I’m still using server for other things so connectivity hasn’t been a problem
When Linux reports “No Route to Host”,
- The routing table (which is how Linux knows where to send packets) is empty.
- That table happens in only a few ways.
a. The cable gets unplugged or connection fails.
b. The IP address of the system is changed or refreshed (DHCP) - When that happens, there is a moment when the table is erased and recreated.
- PMS maintains a constant connection to Plex.tv so it knows the ISP-provided IP (this is how remote access works. DDNS)
- When the table drops, that connection will too and it will complain.
I’m starting to suspect
- A router firmware update ?
- A change in the default DHCP lease time (if you’re using DHCP for the Syno).
Any of this ring a bell?
No sorry…none of that rings a bell. Nothing has changed on the system
There has to be something knocking it down.
We can try a bit bolder step
- Sign your web browser out of your Plex account (upper right corner)
- Stop PMS
- Open File Station
- Navigate down into Plex / library / application support / plex media server
- Rename “Preferences.xml” to “Preferences.xml.old” (right -click -> Rename)
- Now start it
In your browser:
- open the synology again by IP address: http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400./web
- It will present you with:
a. “Got It” (found a server)
b. Sign in
c. First-run setup wizard will auto start - Start stepping through the setup wizard however
4… When it wants to create library sections, Don’t. SKIP that part. - Continue stepping through it , setting the options just as you did before.
- When you Finish , you should find you’re logged in again and your Library sections are there waiting for you.
Hello, I was able to follow the first set of steps to change the file name:
However, when I go to http://192.168.7.211:32400/web?secure=0 I get the same issue as before where nothing happens…I don’t get the options “got it” sign in, etc
Ok, let’s dump the current version.
- Uninstall Plex
- go back to the package center main search bar and type
Plex - It will give you the option to install the version stored at Synology.
- It’s a bit older but good.
- Try it.
I uninstalled plex.. I reinstalled it from package center, clicked install, and take a look at the message that was flashed in the upper right hand corner of the screenshot
Now I can’t reinstallNo problem. That happens.
Restart DSM and reinstall again.
Sometimes DSM doesn’t let go of the Plex port after uninstall.
Restart always clears it.
The next time someone says they can’t get support from PLEX, I’m going to show them this thread.
I couldn’t agree more!!! Especially for a dummy like me this was priceless support!
@ChuckPa First, you were extremely patient with me on both my technical problems AND my technical lack of IQ. Secondly, after following your instructions everything is working great now!!
I’m beyond impressed by the help you offered and I greatly appreciate it!!
I’m glad I was able to help and you’re very welcome!
This is what I’m here for when I’m not off working on the QA & Packaging
I do the OS-level work on making PMS run on different platforms. My primary area is Linux which includes Synology and QNAP NAS boxen. I’ve been using Unix/Linux for 35+ years now as both user and developer.
@tramp78 … yep, @ChuckPa has been a HUGE help and very patient with me as well. The thread I created is probably just as long as this one, and he has helped and educated me at every step. That man deserves a Christmas bonus for his patient.
Chuck, not to hijack this thread, but have you seen this? I am currently ingesting a large music directory and this seems to have helped (setting up a bogus folder first, ingest that, then switch)
