Can't access tv shows using Plex for Windows 1.27.2.1599

Server Version#: 1.21.2.3943
Player Version#: 1.27.2.1599

Updated Plex for Windows player last night and now I can’t access my anything from the home screen. I can click on the play button and the movie/tv show will start but If I click on the movie/tv show title (to read the plot summary or access a different season) all I get is the circle waiting thing. i can go to the sidebar and access movies and tv shows but i can’t access anything from the home page.

Server Version#: 1.21.2.3943
Player Version#: 1.27.2.1599

I had the same problem after the update. I downgraded to Player Version#: 1.25.0.1511 and it was fixed. There are also no problems with Plex Media Player Version#: 2.58.0.1076 and the web interface, so definitely something wrong with the latest Windows Player update.
I’m running Windows 10 Pro x64 20H2

How do I downgrade to the previous versio? That version always worked great for me. Thanks

I had to do a Google search for an archived version. Granted it is not ideal to download from a third-party site, but it doesn’t seem they are available for download from Plex and there is no way to revert to a previous version (devs, are you reading this.) Search the version number and download, I used the one from uptodown site. It will install over the newer version, no need to uninstall.

The older Media Player, as opposed to just Player, works fine and is available on the Plex site.

I allowed the automatic update to Player version#: 1.27.2.1599-7689068b and things seem to be back to normal. Maybe try downloading the latest installer package and install that over your current version.

I am having this exact problem. Did you solve this?

Uninstall and downloading the new version again from the website solved it for me

Nvm this problem is there. Plex keeps spinning

Open the web app https://app.plex.tv
Check all your Collections, if any are set to ‘Custom Ordering’ (edit, ‘Advanced’ tab) Reset that to either ‘date’ or ‘title’.
Check collections both in the tv show library(s) as well as in the movie library(s) – even if you already edited a same-named collection in the other library.

Then do this: Plex for Windows won't run - #3 by OttoKerner

Update to the newest player again.

This is still occurring. I have to clear the directory every day or two with 1.27.2.1599-7689068b. This happens on two different machines. Back to the 1.25.0.1511 for me.

For me, everything works fine when I first launch, then after watching one or two videos, I can no longer get any title/link to work. I can still play videos if they are on the “on deck” or “continue playing” list or if when you move the cursor over a television progam or movie, you get the little play icon. When I go to the Home page or any library, I can see the contents but cannot click on the title bar for anything. I am running the current version of the Plex Media Server on a TrueNas server. To debug, I installed the server on my laptop and shut down the TrueNas server. Everything worked fine. If I use the Plex for Windows app from another computer I get the same results. I reverted back to Plex-1.25.0.1511-47afccd4-x86_64 which I fortunately had downloaded and it works fine.

The new Player version 1.28.0.1681-cc6e807c still has this issue. I also had to clear the update cache or it will constantly tell me to install an update.

Out of desperation, I created a new jail and manually installed Plex server. Problem gone. Then I restored my old plex data to the new server installation… problem back. Somehow this problem is related to something in my data but I have no idea what. I decided to sacrifice my run statistics and such and installed a new version of the server and pointed it to my files without restoring the database and such. Took the time to clean up all my data and hopefully the problem is gone. I will be very unhappy if it comes back after all this!!.

I’m over in this GitHub issue: Plex Player not loading show data · Issue #1014 · plexinc/plex-media-player · GitHub. There are 1.29.0 alpha testing builds that we’d really appreciate a couple folks checking for an improvement.

For other folks, 1.25.0 release builds to fall back on:

Thanks @deactivated, that appears to have fixed the issue at least during 30 minutes of testing (the issue was immediate and persistent previously).

Will continue to test and let you know if the issue re-occurs here.

Thank you again for the response.

Will give 1.29 a go later.

However, I’m pretty sure Plex for Mac updates automatically so, if someojne install this, how do they stop it from immediately updating to the problem version again?

This seemed to fix the problem at first, I did a lot of viewing but eventually the problem came back. From my testing, it seems to be something about my library of files…

@deactivated I can confirm that v1.25.0 almost immediately updates itself to v1.28.0.

I have the same problem on various Mac players and Apple TV (all the latest version), This does not happen with a web interface on the server mac.

Hi @JCHH, the app will prompt you to update at each launch. Instead of updating you’ll have to press the Remind Me Later button in the pre-launch modal.
