Can't change "On Deck" storage location for optimized versions

When I want to click “Optimize” for On Deck or Recently Added, the only version storage location possible is “In folders with original items”. The specific folders are missing. Is this on purpose or is this a bug?

Optimize settings for “On Deck”

vs. Optimize settings for “Prison Break”

To have optimized media stored in a different location,

  1. Create another directory (the actual location you want to use)
  2. Add that empty directory to the list of folders belonging to the library section (“Add Folders”)
  3. Now, when you optimize, it will present you the option.

In your own screenshot above, it looks like you’re right there now.
Can you not select the ‘optmizedtv’ directory?

Thanks for the response! I have set it up exactly as described.

The problem is that changing the storage version works for a Series (say Prison Break), but not when I want to create optimized versions of episodes listed under “On Deck” or “Recently Added”. The folders simply do not appear in the dropdown menu - your step 3 - (see first screenshot), whereas they do for a show like Prison Break (see second screenshot).

Can you shed any light on why this is different?

“On Deck” is is what’s up next (a shortcut) as is “Recently Added”.
They are intended for immediate / next playback.

When you go directly into those series, now you have full access.

Thanks for your response!

The docs specifically list creating optimized versions for On Deck tv shows and recently added movies as a use case. See e.g. this support article: https://support.plex.tv/articles/214079318-media-optimizer-overview/ under the heading “Why would I want to use it?”

Also, as shown above it’s possible to create optimized versions for “On Deck” shows. However, I can’t change the storage location. Do you have insight on why this is the case? It seems like a bug to me.
