8.8.8.8 is Google’s public DNS server (also 8.8.4.4).

If your Synology NAS is having trouble resolving plex.tv, then changing the DNS setting may help the situation.

  1. Login to the NAS. Control Panel → Network. General tab.
  2. Check the box to manually configure the DNS server.
  3. Enter preferred and alternative DNS server (8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4)
  4. Apply.

If you do not want to use Google, there are many alternative public DNS servers.

I just tried the off-the-shelf Google DNS servers and that did the trick!

Weird thing is there was already something in the preferred DNS box but it was a mess of letters and numbers almost like a mac address.

Anyway, Plex is back installed and the world is a happy place again! Man, you guys are awesome here! I can’t thank you enough!!!
