Plex Server no longer working after password reset (Synology NAS)

Need help!! I have reset my password after the breach but since then I am unable to access my server anymore.

I have tried the claim server option, uninstall/reinstall and pretty much everything that’s been mentioned in this forum and no luck.

I have been trying for a few hours now and have got to the point that I just want to setup a new server and re-add everything but I am now having issues doing this.

I have tried fully uninstalling it on my Synology NAS(DS720+) but when I reinstall (via the synology and via direct package) when I go to the add media it just directs me to "Get a Media Server option rather than adding media. I have tried deleting the Plex folders etc and still upon reinstalling its not working.

Pretty much a noob with all this so any ideas on how to easily fully delete it and just start again would be greatly appreciated?

Hello,

Folks,

Are these DSM 7 or DSM 6 installations?

DSM 7 already has what’s needed built into the package itself (in the installation options)

I have DSM 7 version.

I do not understand the thread. As I said, I am a basic user (informatic noob, no script knowledge or so whatever).

First time instalation of Plex was easy. Due to password reseting, there is a risk lots of us end up using another multimedia server. I want to give Plex an oportunity but I need help. They have to understand there are a lot of users that are, so called basic, like me…

Thanks for any help you can give me.

@ChuckPa I am also on DSM7 and have tried the normal install and claim server options when installing the package and still getting blocked.

as mentioned i have tried deleting everything and tried to install fresh as its seeming like an easier option but everytime i do its asking me to install a server again

When I wrote the DSM 7 packaging, I wanted to give us as much as I could given the limited environment.

DSM 7 took away all the administrator privileges I had. I was completely dependent on Synology to do things for me.

This is when I came up with the menu pages you see as you install PMS on DSM 7.

– Long Story abruptly terminated — :sunglasses:

To fix this

  1. Uninstall the package with the “Uninstall Only - KEEP” option (saves all your data)

  2. Manual Install the same SPK file again –

  3. Selecting the “Install using Plex Claim Token” radio button

  4. Click “Get Plex Claim Token” blue link

  5. New web browser tab opens with a token for you to COPY (click it)

  6. Return to Installer form tab

  7. PASTE the token in the installer window’s form

  8. Click NEXT and DONE

  9. In about 15-20 seconds (typical), Installation will complete - AND -

  10. You will see “Claimed by: YourPlexNameHere”

  11. This confirms the NAS and Plex.tv were able to get you new credentials

  12. Start PMS if you haven’t

  13. THIS ONE TIME ONLY
    – Open a private browser tab
    – Open PMS using the Syno’s LAN IP address ( http://lan.ip.of.syno:32400/web )
    – See and ignore the “isn’t hosted by plex” (it’s your server, not plex’s – haha)

  14. Sign in
    – Let the browser and server sync
    – You might find yourself in an odd spot because of incognito mode – no problem
    – Go to the left side and verify things are bacaj

If needed.. This is already in our FAQ

I am having the same issue and I can not get anything to work. I am using a Synology DS418 and I am unable to update the spk while getting the following error: “The package requires DSM 7.0-40000 or older”.

You used the Plex Claim Token method and then the one-time opening by LAN IP address ??

If you have done this:

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Open FileStation
  3. Navigate: PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server
  4. Right-Click LogsCompress to Logs.zip
  5. Download the ZIP file
  6. Attach here. I will review and find the problem.

(:crossed_fingers: you have DEBUG logging enabled)

You are running DSM 6 You want the “Synology” labeled package from https://plex.tv/downloads

DSM 6 = Synology label
DSM 7 = Synology (DSM 7) label

Hi, I’m having the same problems. (running DS7 on a Synology DS920+) But I don’t get the Plex claim token page at all during reinstall. Really frustrated at this password change.

@monty_p

You don’t see this page when you Manual Install the package ?

No. It never pops up.

Are you 100% certain you are DSM 7.

This page appears on all DSM 7 installations.

DSM 6 does not have this page

Yes, just checked. 7.1-42661 update 4

Which version is installed ?

The only time you don’t see it is with an upgrade.

Plex version, 1.21.0-3744

CRAP!

That is the DSM 7 BETA package. No wonder you’re all broken.
That package was only valid until DSM 7 was formal/final release.

Download current PMS from Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More

Manual Install this new version – which is going to be a silent upgrade.

It will be “processing” (or “upgrading”) – depends on DSM version

Let it sit there . it’s moving your data from BETA storage to final production storage.

After that’s done, Let me know and I’ll help you with the Plex Claim Token (which you’ll now see like the rest of us)

@ChuckPa So I tried the method you mentioned earlier on today and it didn’t work but I have just tried again via a different PC and have managed to setup a new server on my NAS!!!

In the process of re-adding everything now but so glad to have it up and running again that I dont even mind

Thanks for the help its appreciated

Clarify please ?

Did you erase the entire contents of the PlexMediaServer shared folder
-or-
Uninstall with the Erase option

so you could start up and create new ?
