(using Plex server on a QNAP NAS, viewing/editing on Web App client)
I oddly only seem to have the problem with one TV series: most of the TV documentary series by Louis Theroux (BBC)…
Every episode I have exists on thetvdb.com so they should show up.
I’ve rescanned the library about 4, 5 times changing every time one parameter to see if it fixed it but nothing works!
Basic folder structure is as following:
/TV Documentaries/Louis Theroux/…
Then inside that Louis Theroux folder I tried everything:
(FYI, if you don’t know Louis Theroux, he’s done tons of documentaries but each time, they are like mini-series of sometimes as few as 2, 3 episodes, other times several seasons).
Starting file name was: SeriesTitle - SxxExx - EpisodeTitle
First, all episodes in the parent folder, no subfolders and just named with the main title of the series, leaving out ‘Louis Theroux’ at the beginning, thinking it could be redundant since it’s the name of the parent folder
Then I put each series in it’s own folder, with the name of the series
Then I renamed the folder with Louis Theroux at the beginning (as it was in thetvdb.com)
And finally, I renamed also each file with Louis Theroux at the beginning as well.
To make things worse, it bundles together as a ‘collection’ (there’s a number in the top left of the poster), a whole bunch of unrelated episodes which I can’t even split and can be played separately either!?
What else can I try??
Thanks in advance!
Files are just your regular .avi, mp4, mkv. Nothing special, same as every other file format I have in my libraries for which I have no naming issues.
What is the link to that show on the TVDB?
Just lookup Louis Theroux and as I explained, you’ll find many series. I have a whole bunch of those (episodes from 11 different series). Doesn’t matter exactly which, it’s just a total mess here in Plex!
Why don’t you tell us how a few of your files/folder are actually named.
I thought I had? Have a close look and my original post and tell me more specifically where you need more explanations.
Thanks!
RIght, well, I’m afraid scanning just two episodes wouldn’t qualify as a successful test result to explain my problem. You would need to mix at least a few different sub-series and have higher number of files to really conclude that the problem is only on my end (then…how do we explain it/solve it??)
I have a total of 57 episodes spread across 11 different sub-series.
Out of those 57, yes a few are named correctly, but I’m looking to solve the problem the vast majority that are incorrect
what does that even mean. the “show” on tvdb (if this one since you refuse to just tell me) is only one season. if you have a bunch of sub folders for each “series” you have it set up wrong.
like this /databackup/media/TV-Archived/Star Trek - The Next Generation (1987)/Season 05/Star Trek - The Next Generation (1987) - s05e13 - The Masterpiece Society [x264 DTS 5.1].mkv
This getting confusing…
BigWheel…I don’t understand what you don’t understand? You quote me and then ask me:
but in your quote I don’t even say those words? Are you speaking about something I said higher up in the thread? Best to quote me exactly so I can clarify.
Please don’t get so defensive…I fully appreciate your help, I don’t understand the change of tone? I told you everything, I’m not refusing to tell anything…I don’t understand that?
As I said, if you look up ‘Louis Theroux’ on theTVDB, you’ll find many sub-series (the best way i can call it). As I explained, I can’t imagine it makes any difference which exact episodes of which series I have or not since it’s just such a complete mess but ok, since you insist:
Louis Theroux
Louis Theroux - Altered States
Louis Theroux - America’s Most Hated Family
Louis Theroux - By Reason of Insanity
Louis Theroux - Dark States
Louis Theroux - Extreme Love
Louis Theroux - Law and Disorder
Louis Theroux - Miami Mega Jail
Louis Theroux - When Louis Met
Louis Theroux’s LA Stories
Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends
it’s quite clear you think you have. but instead of answering my question you keep giving half information. and things you think i need to know instead of answering my questions.
this is not an actual file name. this is an EXAMPLE of a generic file name.
These are 9 different shows.
If you have your library set up to look at /share/CACHEDEV1_DATA/MyVideos/DOCUMENTARY/TV Documentaries then you are telling PLex that the next folder “Louis Theroux” is the show.
and since I imagine you have an S01E01 in each of those subfolders then that is why it thinks you have multiple copies of episode 1 of that one show.
the shows/series folder. need to be at the top level if they are different shows. get rid of the extraneous “Louis Theroux” folder. That’s your problem if you want them to all be different shows/series
[SOLVED: The library scanner can be very picky sometimes. When running “Fix Match…” I replaced the - symbol with the : symbol to make it “Louis Theroux: America’s…” instead of “Louis Theroux - America’s…” and that did it! Funny, it’s never been necessary with any other series?]
This is the only mini-series of Louis Theroux that didn’t get identified but I absolutely cannot figure out why?
Any ideas?
I promise I’ll answer the questions directly, no diversion!
(I did the ‘Clean Bundles’ too)
colons can’t be part of path (invalid character), but shows that have colons are sometimes missed by the scanner, while the fix match can sometimes require the colons.
if not I would just do a Fix match to at least get that with the TVDBID in the Title Field. but looks like you are going to have to enter that stuff manually.
