Can't seem to split TV shows with duplicate matches anymore?

Anyone missing the split button on TV shows with duplicates? Clicking on the ellipses from the details page of the item doesn’t have the split option anymore, unless I’m doing something wrong? Help?

Or maybe, for starters, can anyone confirm that the option is missing for them too?

Any tips on how to get plex to “re-index” them and hopefully not merge them? They’re very different files with different meta data, not sure why they got lumped together.

Split is only available at the ‘show’ level - not at the season or episode level.

The best strategy to avoid such a situation is to stick to the naming guide for TV Shows - closely.

  1. Look up your show on TheTVDB
  2. Take the title as it is used on TheTVDB. If there is something in parentheses, take that too. If the title contains invalid characters (depends on your file system), like § : % *, simply leave them out.
  3. Check the naming and the folder structure of your show. Name the top folder of the show exactly after the title on TheTVDB. No abbreviations. No additional subfolders. No aliases.
  4. Name the episode files according to the above linked naming guide. Use the same title as for the top folder. Show's Title - s01e01 - additional info.ext (’- additional info’ can be left out)
  5. After you corrected the naming and folder structure, perform the Plex Dance with all files for this show.

Thanks Otto! Turns out my naming structure was a little wonky on these ones, so I made the necessary updates. Then I did the Plex Dance (clever) and got most of them to resolve.

I still have a few that are getting lumped together. Can you explain to me what you meant by the split only being available at the show level and not the season or episode level?

I just could have sworn I had used it on episodes in the past. Seems like it’s the most likely place to have duplicates anyway… :confused:

You go to the preplay page of the show as a whole (the top level of a TV Show or ‘Series’). Then on the left side under the ellipsis the Split is available, if there is something to split.

But if you stick to the naming guide, this would be only the case where a mismatch was caused by embedded meta tags (only in mp4/m4v files).

Mismatches caused by embedded metatags can be avoided by doing either of these:

  • remove all embedded metatags from your files
  • correct all embedded meta tags in your files
  • drag down the line ‘Local Media Assets’ so it sits below the line ‘TheTVDB’ under Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

After doing either of these, Dance again :wink:

If you still have problems with shows getting lumped together I need to know the actual file and folder names used.
