I reset my password on plex.tv, disconnected all users as I had suspicious connections, but now I lost access to my server.
I did all the things listed in the message marked as a solution in the previous thread (stopped the server, deleted the lines, restarted the server,…), I can’t get access to my server : the “Server” tab on the configuration page is not here on the server’s local webapp.
Other client apps don’t have access too.
Any idea ?
My configuration :
Synology DS218+
DSM 7.1-42661 Update 2 (last version, up to date)
Plex Pass
Plex Server for DSM7 v1.27.0.5889-7000 (last beta from Plex Pass)
Google Chrome 102.0.5005.115 (last version, up to date)
Client Plex for Windows v1.46.1.3056-ab91bdc0 (last beta from Plex Pass)
Deleting the lines from the preferences.xml is kind of a nuclear option. You should already have been able to simply reclaim the server through the web ui.
When accessing the bundled web app to reclaim your server, make sure you’re doing so from within the same subnet!
I’m in the same subnet, I can have access to the webui through the local IP address of my Synology server, mentionning the correct port.
The web access on the server’s webapp is OK but it is like the server thinks it is not a server but a web client.
Everything works, I can connect with my new password on every client and on the local server’s webapp through a local IP, but the “Server” section is not shown…
EDIT : Trust me, it’s been 2 hours I’m trying to get back my server, tried everything on different web browser/client, resetting the password again, restarting the server, updating,… Nothing works for now…
Ultimate solution : I deleted the Preferences.xml file and now I can have access to my server, BUT I have to do the server’s configuration again…
Please, devs, this is a bug (or in a better way, a process that can not be understood for most people). Each admin must be capable of changing the main account password without doing such tricky things. For example, here I shared a password with my ex-GF. Now, I changed this password in every website we had in common so I wanted to disconnect all users in the same time.
This is a very simple case that can happen to every admin here, but the solution is so tricky !
Please, can you do something for the future admins ?
something as simple as changing a password could wreak havoc…I mean, just a couple of weeks ago. I enabled 2-factor auth on my server…and here at home a family member uses their Ipad to watch Plex locally (everything we do is local) and they ran to me asking what was wrong with Plex…(I had them log out, back in…got the code…they entered it…it wouldn’t work…I had to disable 2-factor auth just so that their Ipad would work…otherwise, it saw the server but all the libraries were unavailable…
