Complete newbie: How to avoid Plex from assigning titles to movies?

Server Version#: 1.29.2.6364-7000 on Synology NAS
Player Version#: Not sure. Using Plex after logging in to the NAS

All I want is to stop Plex from assigning titles to my movies

That’s quite a dated server version

You can configure a library type as „Other video“. In that case, Plex won’t attempt to match the files (no mapping to online sources, no downloading of metadata/artwork/themes/extras/…).

Thanks. It is, but I need to go by them … this is all due to their elimination of Video Station, which worked beautifully.

Is that the only way or is there one of the million settings that can stop Plex from doing it in ANY library?

Changing the library Agent setting to “Plex Personal Media” will turn the library from Movie or TV Show to Other Videos.

(Doing so in a “TV Shows”-type library will still retain the library being about series. So the requirement to stick to the Plex naming schema for series still applies.)

Library Type can’t be changed, so do I need to delete the libraries and re-add media and re-scan?

All that so Plex won’t attempt to match the files (no mapping to online sources, no downloading of metadata/artwork/themes/extras/…)?

I just told you above how to do it.

The link, https://support.plex.tv/articles/200289266-editing-libraries/, specifically mentions that “When editing a Library, you can change every setting except the type (Movie, TV Show, etc.).”.

So, there is no EDIT; just DELETE and CREATE. Am I right?

Just do it as I told you and see the result.

I am sorry, but I do not see how to edit the library type in the links you sent. Can you convert the “I told you” into helpful steps?

  1. Edit the library ( > Manage Library > Edit...)
  2. Navigate to the Advanced tab
  3. Set the library’s Agent to Plex Personal Media

Many thanks!
