The only way we are going to get this fixed is to detail the exact issues we are having to the Plex devs, post logs, spec’s of our servers and maybe even take some phone videos of the buffering issues while it is happening. Plex devs are listening to the problem we just need to make sure they know this is not a one off thing and we still have a platform problem with the Xbox
Are you aware that this thread is over a year old, that there are other threads, multiple reports and people sure as heck have already done all that?
Yes, but a plex dev is actively working with me and the latest info is they are unable to reproduce the truehd buffering issues many of us have seen. so right now while we have their attention it is advisable to provide as much info as possible to them.

I have a cheap workaround as of today. Plugged in a Chromecast to the HDMI in on the Xbox.
This means not having to change settings or channels on my amp, it means my tv tuner can still be used on the Xbox.
Does the Xbox do any processing on data in the hdmi pass through port?
Just an FYI the hdmi IN does not support 4K or Atmos which is where the problem lies . I have no problem streaming 1080p direct from the Xbox
Before moving to my workaround I was 50 minutes into a movie which would no longer play even at the lowest settings without buffering every 30-60 seconds making it unwatchable.
Plugged in the Chromecast. Which was flawless. File is 1080p. Re: 4k…well my projector and content make it a non issue for me.
Yea 1080P is fine, the issue revolves around 4k HDR and TrueHD, most other audio codecs on 4k HDR are working fairly well now.
I don’t have the same experience. I have the same issue with 1080 files fairly regularly even on 1904.
Putting my hand up again to say 1080 content has the same issue.
I’d regularly need to transcode to 720 to get stuff to play it it played at all.
I’ve basically not been using my projector or having movie nights for the last year out of frustration at this. $50 later to put the chromecast into hdmi in and I’m back to enjoying my setup.
Same problem, 1080 constantly buffers, but 720 works fine.
I now only have issues with 4k HDR files with a TrueHD/Atmos audio track. Just watched a 4k HDR DTS-MA movie and it played perfectly in HDR with zero buffing during the movie.
So glad I found this. I’ve just got myself into Plex after happily using Emby for the last 2 years on my Asustor NAS. All my source files are 1080p MKV’s.
I like the look of Plex better plus I like fiddling with technology so off I went. I’ve got the latest Plex server on my NAS along with the Tautulli app which is quite nice for Plex stats etc.
My streaming devices are: Laptops running wither Windows 7 or 10. Android phones, apple phones, nvidia sheild, PC’s and Xbox One (just bought it for the daughter).
Everything works flawlessly apart from the Xbox One. I’ve tried so hard to overload my LAN to see its limits but I can’t get it to miss a beat. The Xbox One is another story completely - buffer, buffer, play, app lockups, buffer, play some more…etc
The only difference I can see from the Tautulli app is that the Xbox One will not direct stream the container. It always says transcode, MKV > MP4. All my other devices say Direct Stream MKV.
I saw some people mentioned Kodi with the Plex plugin on the Xbox One. So I tried it and now I get Direct Stream and perfect playback on the Xbox One.
So close but yet so far! I will keep my eyes on this as I’d like to use Plex instead of Kodi on the Xbox One.
I was on my brothers xbox and yes 1080p was buffering constantly and 720 was fine, I was convinced it was his internet but now I see this thread…
why doesnt the xbox have the auto adjust quality setting?
everyone is talking 4k, Im just trying to run 1080p and its not working, 720 is the only way and I dont think its the internet speed on his end. I have 800MBps upload
I have the same problem - seems to be only affecting the xbox plex app. The exact same media played on the plex app on my PS4 has no stuttering issues at all. Both devices are hard wired to the same router. This is a recent development, since I tried media files that I know worked fine about a month ago, but are stuttering badly now.
This is 1080p with atmos encoding.
Can confirm.
1080p constantly buffers.
720p streams excellent.
Xbox One S, also experiencing issues on the Xbox One X
I have 1080p h264 mkv files with ac3, eac3 or dts audio, and buffering is very rare, 1-2 times a week, (we use Plex on Xbox every day) Xbox has public firmware, not insider, audio is set to bitstream out, Dolby Digital (HDMI) because PCM uncompressed not working well with my setup.
Maybe I have luck with it.
After 1h my movie started buffering yesterday on xbox one x (it worked perfect up to that point), and audio was trascoding and video “direct stream” when it really should be both “direct play”?
On my lg tv app the same file worked perfect with no buffering and “direct play” on both video and audio. Is the xbox app really this bad? Or what could be wrong? And why is nothing done to fix this?
FFS so this is back again. I had a period from about Xmas until about two weeks ago where this seemed fairly stable. Now every few minutes buffering buffering buffering. Any fix in sight?
Please can we have some official comment from Plex support?! How do we get hold of you guys?!
