Custom Posters Have Changed & New Ones Are Not Showing Up

Version 1.19.1.2645

So something strange has happened in the last few weeks.

The first thing is that when I drop custom poster files into a movie folders - they no longer populate in the posters window on any of my plex interfaces (web, desktop, mobile). I instead have to use the “choose an image” file - navigate to my server, and select the file manually.

Then, this evening and for reasons I cannot understand, a bunch of my custom posters were no longer being used. I have gone back in and started to change them and noticed that some of the posters still show up in the poster browser, others i had to use the choose an image with. Even stranger, some of my films still have the custom posters i set some time ago.

Here are my logs: https://filebin.net/kvd3986qkrwisjzf

Any thoughts? I have cleaned the bundles and optimized the db but that did not resolve the issue.

TheMovieDB have been purging masses of posters from their site.
If you refresh metadata, you lose those old posters from your library.

All you can do is to either

  • wait if they are eventually are getting re-uploaded and then Refresh again
  • activate the additional sources Cinematerial and/or fanart.tv under Agents and refresh again

cool thanks … that makes sense for the stuff i’m grabbing online. i’ve got fanart going too already  - but what about the posters i’m storing locally? I have many movies with poster files (aka poster.jpg, poster-1.jpg,poster-2.jpg) and those have not been populating anymore. If i get a new movie and drop a poster file in - it’s not showing up in the browser.

Have you made sure that you did not disable the ‘Local Media Assets’ agent?
Under both
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
and
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDB

Both are still enabled - i disabled them and re-enabled them both and then refreshed the library but still no luck. I also cleaned bundles and optimized again. :frowning:

one other note - this is not happening with my TV library. Just thought that information might be relevant.

so as an update - i still can’t figure out what’s exactly going on - i went in and refreshed my entire library - that didn’t fix the problem - just made it more confusing. Some of the movies in my library are showing the customer poster i assigned, others are showing the default poster but when i go to the poster browser i see the custom poster, and still others don’t even show the custom poster in the browser.

Completely stumped here.

Of those that don’t show the custom poster, what does it say in the guid= in their Plex XML info ?

here’s an XML for interview with a vampire…https://filebin.net/ny0ux8bi5jfhxqb0/71?t=vlbcwugn

is there anyway to batch change them? Like tell plex somehow - if you see a poster.png or poster.jpg file in the directory - use that as the cover? Otherwise, it looks like i have to go back through all of my movies and manually change a bunch of them! :frowning:

com.plexapp.agents.imdb://tt0110148?lang=en would have been sufficient.

It tells us that this movie was matched with the ‘Plex Movie’ agent.
I assumed that a few of your movies were matched with a different agent, so you needed to verify that the ‘Local Media Assets’ are activated everywhere.

The only way to reset the poster selection (that I know of) is to Plex Dance.
But that of course will also reset the ‘Added at’ date.

Gotcha - i saw several different keys for GUID with different information so i thought it best to just post the entire xml.

Local Media Assets is checked in every one of the sections for both TV and Movies. I had subsequently refreshed the metadata for the entire library so i’m surprised it’s still not working for a few places. I’m guessing there isn’t any way to automatically change the posters to display one i have stored locally?

Unfortunately not.
