Daily Shows Matching Wrong Episode

Server Version#: Version 1.26.2.5797 on Docker

I use a DVR to record The Late Show w/ Stephen Colbert, and though I’m properly naming the episodes, Plex is pulling the wrong episode number and metadata with no way to fix the episode number mismatch. The names and dates match TVDB identically, but Plex seems to screw up and pull the previous day’s episode number and information about half the time.

I’m using the Plex Media Agent (“Plex TV Series” as listed in the library scanner/metadata agent field) and do not have “prefer local metadata” checked as that caused significant issues with the air date in the recent past.

For example:

Episode: The Late Show w/ Stephen Colbert, S07E124, Alexander Skarsgård, Jack White

Filename: \\NAS\TV Shows\The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\Season 7\The Late Show with Stephen Colbert - 2022-04-20 - Alexander Skarsgård, Jack White.mkv

Result: Plex matches as S07E123, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Emmy Blotnick

Example 2:

Episode: The Late Show w/ Stephen Colbert, S07E130, Mark Esper, Judd Apatow

Filename: \\NAS\TV Shows\The Late Show with Stephen Colbert\Season 7\The Late Show with Stephen Colbert - 2022-05-16 - Mark Esper, Judd Apatow.mkv

Result: Plex matches as S07E129, Chris O’Donnell, Elvis Costello

This means I pretty much have to hand-enter 100% of the metadata after validation for each episode and even then half the time I can’t get posters that match the content of the episode because the episode number it has matched is incorrect.

Which one is that?

“Plex TV Series” as the scanner and the metadata agent in the library.

In the properties of the library, on the Advanced tab: what is selected as “Episode Ordering”?

Episode Ordering is set to “TheTVDB” as the only other option there is The Movie Database.

Could you tell me which time zone is set on your server?

NAS hosting Docker is running on eastern time, Docker container has TZ set to “America/New_York”.

Time in Plex server logs is accurate and in the correct timezone, I just checked to be sure.

Yes, this confirms my suspicion.
I will forward this as a bug report.

is this related to my issue here

where the episode ordering setting seems to be ignored?

No, it’s not related.

Could you update to the current beta version of the server? (1.27.0)
It is supposed to have quite a few date-related fixes.

Ah, fiddlesticks, I wish I could but it doesn’t look like the ls.io container has 1.27 beta available and that’s the branch I’ve been using. Is the plex run pms container beta the 1.27? I can export and just compose a new one off that image/branch if so.

Hoinestly, I don’t know. Since this version is available for all other platforms already, I’m assuming it is the same for Docker.

Looks like Version 1.27.0.5897 fixed it after all – upgrading and doing the Plex Dance initially looked like it was making the same errors but letting it finish it appears to have correctly determined the episode numbers and the associated metadata.

Looks solved!
