Default Automatic Backup Directory - where? (not self-defined Schedueld Task)

Server Version#:1.40.2.8395
Player Version#:Roku Ultra (latest app)

Where is the default backup location? Everything I find indicates the database location (/PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases), but that’s the ORIGINAL location. You cannot back to the original location, at least not using the original names, so the backup should be somewhere else. The location itself should be “standardized” regardless of OS platform, at least 3 or 4 levels down, so even if your server is on Windows or Mac, that info might be helpful.

I need to get that info as my settings somehow has this as blank (undefined) - I know it was their prior to reinstalling Plex as I saw the box was too small to show the entire path. But, I’ve been scrambling round trying to restore the server (from accidentally deleting it myself) and probably fat-fingered it :frowning:

Anyway, I need the actual location to not only correct the setting, but to locate the backup so I can restore it. Reinstalling Plex didn’t remove previous configuration as it should have.

Thank you!

Database Backups are indeed located in the database folder. The file names have a timestamp suffix to distinguish them from the original (active) database file.

The default location is: /var/packages/PlexMediaServer/shares/PlexMediaServer/AppData/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases.

That is the path that appears in Settings → Scheduled Tasks.

If using Synology File Station, it appears as /PlexMediaServer/AppData/… (File Station hides some path information).

Navigate to that directory using Synology File Station. You’ll see the database files. The backups have the date appended to the file name.

Some additional info to assist with running Plex Media Server on Synology NAS:

To restore from a backup, see FAQ 30 - DSM 7 - Database Repair using a Backup copy.
