What do I do now?

Bob

@rdargus

If you are DSM 7,

  1. Uninstall the package — Use the KEEP option (which is the default)
  2. Reinstall the SAME SPK again
  3. Click ā€œInstall using Plex Claim Tokenā€ option
  4. Click ā€œGet Plex Claim Tokenā€
  5. COPY the claim token from the browser tab that opens.
  6. PASTE it back into the form on the installer window
  7. NEXT NEXT NEXT and it will start installing.

It takes an extra 20-ish seconds to claim and install.

When it finishes, LOOK CAREFULLY at the report page.

  1. standard permissions info.
    -AND-
  2. Successfully claimed again (shows your Plex account name)

Sorry this one is on DMS 6

If you didn’t delete the Plex shared folder or its contents,

Here is the ā€œDSM 6 methodā€ (yes a bit tedious)

  1. Stop PMS

  2. Ensure the Synology Text Editor app is installed.

  3. Depending on DSM version , open Preferences.xml in the Synology text editor
    Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml

  4. Carefully remove the following Name="Value" pairs from Preferences.xml being careful not to damage any others or the punctuation then save the file.

  • PlexOnlineUsername
  • PlexOnlineToken
  • PlexOnlineMail
  • PlexOnlineHome (if it exists)
  1. Now start PMS. Do not open it. Let it sit idle

  2. Open an incognito browser window

  3. In that window, open the Syno by LAN IP ( http://lan.ip.of.syno;32400/web)

  4. It will want you to sign in. Ok

  5. If ā€œGot Itā€ , ok that too.

From there, if the server itself is OK, you’ll come to the dashboard

Claim as appropriate -or- start setup again (if appropriate)

Preferences.xml (complete)

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<Preferences OldestPreviousVersion="1.28.1.6104-788f82488" MachineIdentifier="3aae643f-7a26-417c-a034-e3e92b191e67" ProcessedMachineIdentifier="2034fb881093c6fdcb4df542404c48ee3654ba4f"
AnonymousMachineIdentifier="18521db9-15f9-4bf4-bbea-72213291493d" MetricsEpoch="1" GlobalMusicVideoPathMigrated="1"/>

Any chance you can simplify these instructions or direct me to a source for explanation? I don’t know what a PMS is or what the Synology Text Editor is. (Or where it’s located or how to install it if I don’t have it).

Don’t know if steps 3, 4 etc. will be any clearer but I can’t even start the process.

PMS is Plex Media Server
Synology Text Editor can be found in the Package Center of the Synology NAS (Network Attached Storage) Jist do a search for it.

Thanks rdargus. In addition to not knowing how to stop the PMS, I don’t see a Synology Text Editor in my Package Center. I have several apps including:

Synology MailPlus
Synology Application Service
Synology Calendar
Synology Chat Server
Synology Contacts
Synology Directory Server
Synology Driver Server
Synology Mail Server
Synology MailPlus Server
Synology Office

I have a ā€œregularā€ text editor but I don’t have a Synology Text Editor.

Any other suggestions as to what I can do would be appreciated.

That is the text editor to use

Make sure which version of DMS your Synology NAS is on DMS 6 or DMS 7 instructions are different

I’m on DMS 6,

I did delete the shared plex folder

Then just follow the DMS 6 instructions

Thanks for trying rdargus. This is above my head. I opened the text editor but I don’t find any Name=ā€œValueā€ in the file as outlined in your Step 4, above.

I’m going to wait a couple days and see if an easier solution doesn’t come about. My server is only used to hold my PLEX files so although inconvenient, I can live without my movies for a couple of days. If push comes to shove, I’ll just delete the PLEX applications and try starting anew again.

Thank you again for trying to help a noob.

@rkrause8354_hotmail_com

When you open Preferences.xml in the Text Editor (Right-click → Open with Text Editor)

you will see a couple lines of text.
These are your ā€œPreferencesā€. PMS stores your account name and credentials here.

What we want to remove those Preferences so we can ā€œClaimā€ the server again and bring it back into your account.

  1. Your PlexOnlineUsername
  2. Your PlexOnlineToken
  3. Your PlexOnlineMail
  4. Your PlexOnlineHome

Showing you what they look like for me:

PlexOnlineToken="LEBMx324Z-3z" PlexOnlineUsername="ChuckPA" PlexOnlineMail="ChuckPa@mymail.com" PlexOnlineHome="1"

To accomplish this task, I remove (delete) the Preferences :

  1. PlexOnlineUsername="ChuckPA"
  2. PlexOnlineToken="LEBMx324Z-3z"
  3. PlexOnlineMail="ChuckPa@mymail.com"
  4. PlexOnlineHome="1"

Now we save the file.

When we start PMS, it won’t belong to anyone. It will sit there on your server and wait for you to ā€˜claim’ it back into your account so you can use it again.

(Yes, a bit of a pain but that’s how it was designed … Players and servers each have their own credentials stored with the data)

Chuck,
I deleted shared Plex folder reinstalled plex - Preferences.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

and then Not authorized You do not have access to this server

What can I do next?

@rdargus

Look for the old server and REMOVE it.

Now close and reopen the browser tab(s)

Connect to the syno again
