Download via Android or IOS APP over Internet not possible, only with Webbrowser

For some time now, I haven’t been able to download movies over the internet using my Android or iOS app.

I have two servers: a QNAP NASbook and an NVIDIA Shield Server and a Lifetime Plex Pass.

Downloading on my own network at home is no problem.

However, when I’m on vacation and want to download a movie over the Internet, outside my home, I can only do so via the web browser.

It doesn’t work with the Android app on my tablet or the Plex app on my iPhone.

When I try to download a movie, I always get the following error message:

Relay Connection Error”

It worked a few months ago.

But now it doesn’t work anymore.

Can anyone help me?

Downloads are not supported when connecting via Plex Relay.

Connecting via Plex Relay indicates remote access may not be working correctly.

Check and verify remote access is correctly configured and functioning for your server.

I can watch movies outside of my network over the internet using my apps. I can also download movies via the web browser.

I just can’t download movies via the Android and iOS apps.

Besides, it worked a few months ago and I haven’t changed anything on the network.

A few months ago Plex discovered that Relay was incorrectly allowing downloads through it so that was stopped.

You will need to follow FordGuy61’s link for Remote Access Troubleshooting, or post logs. It helps to show the output of your checks versus just saying I did it.

Plex Web allows the server owner to download media files stored on the server. It is separate from Downloads for Offline Use, which is supported for the mobile apps and Plex Desktop.

The error message you mention indicates your mobile devices are connecting via Plex Relay, not via Remote Access. Plex Relay connections are tunneled through servers at plex.tv. They are limited to 2 Mbps (1 Mbps w/o a Plex Pass) and do not support Downloads for Offline Use.

You can monitor streaming via Plex Dashboard → Now Watching + Expanded View. If the connection is Indirect, then it is using Plex Relay.
