As DSM 7.4 will be releasing on the 16th June 2026, is there any news from Plex about any compatibility issues we should be aware of at this stage?

well i know of a issue, I updated to DSM 7.4 and now i get ā€œNot authorized You do not have access to this server.ā€ and i don’t know how to fix it…

Maybe FAQ 31. It works with earlier versions of DSM.

this is the bigger problem i would say

NAS model?

Which DSM version was installed before the update to 7.4?

Synology changed packaging requirements with DSM 7.2.2. As a result, Plex created a specific package for NAS running DSM 7.2.2 and higher.

If the NAS was running DSM 7.x:

  1. Uninstall Plex Media Server. When given the option, choose ā€œUninstall Only.ā€ It will remove the PMS app. The Plex Data Folder and your media files are not touched.
  2. Download and install the DSM 7.2.2+ package for your NAS from plex.tv (link).

If the NAS was running DSM 6 (you updated from DSM 6 directly to DSM 7.4):

Read FAQ 27 carefully before proceeding. Pay attention to the portions concerning file & folder permissions. There are many changes in how Plex runs on DSM 7 vs DSM 6.

DSM was the latest 7.2 version. The NAS is a DS918+

but seems i was just assuming… thank you that worked!

Thanks for the info.

Update to PMS for DSM 7.2.2+. You’ll want the Intel/AMD 64-bit version.

quick question . Do you have Plex server working now on DSM 7.4?

yes after reinstalling the 7.2.2 version it started working again.

when doing what was suggested it broke my server worse then it was before! At least before it was running just couldn’t watch anything but now after uninstall ( uninstall only and reclaim option selected) And installing with token i get this error now.

Unable to run ā€œPlex Media Serverā€. ERROR: Could not complete dialog with Plex.tv. Unable to claim.

Either installation time was too long or difficulties communicating with Plex.tv exist.

Please try again or seek assistance in our Support Forum.

@ladytower

The Synology NAS cannot communicate with systems at plex.tv, which is necessary to claim the server. This usually indicates a network configuration issue.

Please try the following:

  1. Reboot your router and any network equipment (switch, etc.) between it and the NAS.

  2. Verify network settings
    Synology Control Panel → Network
Verify default gateway is correct (usually your router address)
Verify subnet mask is correct (usually 255.255.255.0)
Configure NAS to use a public DNS server such as 8.8.8.8 (Google) or 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)

  3. Synchronize NAS with NTP Server
Synology Control Panel → Regional Options → Time
Select button to Synchronize with NTP server.
Select a server from the drop down list
    Click Update Now.
The NAS should synchronize with the server and display Status: Normal.

  4. Reboot the NAS.

  5. Claim Plex Media Server
After the NAS is fully back online, repeat FAQ 31.

I did step 1 and 2 and step 3 fails with ā€œunable to sync, There is no network or network connection is unstableā€ But the server is online so i dunno why it is failing, So i switched dropdown to different source instead of time.google to time.nist.gov and now it says in green ā€œnormalā€ i then went on to step 4 and faq 31 and did install and claim token was a success and server is now online again. Thank you for your help i appreciate it!

Good to read you’re up and running. Have a good weekend.
