Hello good morning
For a few days now, when playing some content with DTS audio on my LG C2, it stops transcoding forever and finally the conversion fails, leaving me without seeing the content.
It’s strange because it always happens in the same minute of the movie. It happens in almost all movies with DTS audio.
Anything to be able to do? I think a few weeks ago this did not happen and the transcoding with DTS worked correctly.
Something has happened? Has anything been updated?
I thought I was going crazy and I thought maybe it was just because I was trying 4k with DTS with my LG G2 (I know LG doesn’t passthrough DTS). I tried 720p kids movie with DTS 5.1 and it maxes out and spikes bandwidth at over 160mbps after only a minute or 2 with anything that has DTS in it.
My setup is PMS - Windows 11 Intel I5-12600k 16gb ram and I force Intel Quick Sync for the transcoding and it’s been great except for last week or so. Main tv is my LG G2 and I know DTS has worked great with no buffering in the past. Something in the Server isn’t working correctly.
Same for me, mate.
Almost any movie with a DTS track stops loading after a few minutes and only buffers. If I tap it back 10 seconds, it buffers again at the same moment. Although I left it charging for a long time.
How can this happen with microHD movies that weigh about 5 GB?
This is unsustainable, any movie with DTS audio stops from minute 2-3…
I have the plex server installed on a machine with an i9, 32 RAM and a 1070.
Impossible to watch a movie with dts audio. Something very bad is happening with the transocidifier while a few weeks ago it did not happen.
Admins, is it being reviewed?
I’ve had this happen on my end too with my LG C2, Using both the official LG app & official Xbox app . Plex would direct stream the video but try to transcode the audio. Either instantly or after minute or 2 of play, It would buffer with a spinning wheel, Then crash the stream not long after.
Only way I’ve been able to get around this is to disable Direct Stream within Plex settings on the app. Not ideal, But with both video & audio transcoding, The stream will play all the way through without any hiccups.
Same problem for me, on a LG C2, Plex starts to buffer indefinitely after a few minutes if I try to direct stream the video but with a DTS transcoding audio. If I transcode both by lowering the video quality it gets better but not 100% of the time.
Everything was working fine a few months ago. An update, probably on the LG Plex application side broke everything.
No issue if the audio track doesn’t need to be transcoded.
Please, could the devs fix this? At least acknowledge it in this thread?
This is my exact same problem and I’m on the LG G2 with the LG Plex app. Same time frame too. I’ve been fighting this for the last couple months trying to search for answers and even my Logs don’t help. I really feel like its the LG Plex app that hosed Softward Transcoding. Because if you force HW Transcoding by dropping quality down a bit it transcodes with either your GPU or your Igpu from your CPU(intel) and it plays great. But default SW Transcoding for Audio is BROKEN on LG Plex.
I also have the same issue on my LG C2.
I noticed the issue started after I did the firmware update to WebOS 23. Previous to that update audio transcoding worked fine.
The reason it plays fine for 2 minutes is because that is the initial period that the server transcodes and then throttles. The TV app plays that initially transcoded period just fine, but then there is loss of connection between the app and the server and the app cannot fetch the newly transcoded data after being throttled. I have tested this by increasing the amount of time before throttling in the server transcode settings. The file will always play fine for the amount of time that this is set to.
When it happens, the server says this in the logs: Failed to stream media, client probably disconnected
This must be a problem that can be fixed in the plex app, because playing with transcoded video and audio works fine. It is only when playing files with direct video stream and transcoded audio only where the issue occurs.
Also thank you Asci-227 por post it on Plex Fireside. Im following the post and im watching that they are not responding…
Let’s see if they reply and they say something positive about our problem. A solution for me, was adding an AC3 trak to every film that its only on DTS, TRUEHD or formats so that are not supported.
Im hoping that Plex lack of communication, fixes, or even acknowledgement of many bugs and issues in their TV apps is because of the new universal web app on the horizon.
It would make sense not to fix these bugs in the legacy apps when you have a new one about to come out.
Then again this is Plex we are talking about, so no holding our breath.
I have personally converted all DTS tracks to AC3 in my entire library.
I assume that Plex is not going to do anything about this transcoding error and I am going ahead and converting them all. It is a real shame, but as our friend Ascii says it seems that they are not going to do anything. I have no hope that this will be fixed in the new app.
The other day I wanted to play a 600 mb SD movie and there was no way it would play. I look at Plex and it is using 80 mb/s as you can see in the image. That is not even a 70 gb remux…
Pretty pathetic
