DVR: cannot plan recording from Android app

Sorry for the delay, some issues have been fixed but does not sound like its worked for everyone here :frowning_face:

Is anyone able to provide further logs for me : Android, Android TV, Fire TV, Portal Logs | Plex Support

If you can reproduce the issue and share logs that would be great :bowing_man: as there still must be something else getting in the way here

Attached log when I tried to record a movie in one of my library.

  1. Select a movie to record

  2. Hit record

  3. Change the library under “Add to library”

  4. Hit record movie

  5. Hit record again and you can see the movies is not set to be recorded in library selected in step 2

I also noticed that if you repeat step 2 to 4, you can add the same movie multiple time in the recording priority list.

@daioio - Just updated to version 8.6.0 and the issue still persists.

Not sure if you were aware, this issue appears to have been reported in a few different posts:

@daioio - I assume you are aware that this does not work with 8.6.1 either.

When do you think a fix will be made available?

@mattd_robinson this issue as been raised almost a year ago. I completely lost hop it is gonna be fixed one day.

I’m sure the Plex team could fix this @DreamHomeTheater. The Android app seems to be constantly updated so there must be the resource available.

This has prompted me to tag @daioio, @sixones and @jesusmc here so they know the above issue is still unresolved and has not bee fixed in 8.6.2 either.

I did make some changes to fix a few issues a while back but it seems it’s not solved the problem for everyone. But @mattd_robinson, just to let you know this issue has not been forgotten, I am actually working on updating a lot of things for DVR in the Android client at the moment so it’s a bit of a bigger project to improve the overall experience :slightly_smiling_face: and settings is one of the parts I am working on too. I will keep everyone updated when I have more to share but it’s all in progress

Thank you @daioio - appreciate the heads up.

@daioio, I am more than happy you are revamping the Android mobile app, we all are. That doesn’t change the fact that the feature is broken for almost a year and the only work around I have is to use the web-page which doesn’t work great on mobile. Can’t tell my wife to use that.

I provided logs from the mobile app in August 24. There is a lot of exception in that log and I hopped that it would help to fix.

Same issue here. Using the web interface, I can setup recordings successfully.

Using my Shield and/or android phone, I get: “An error has occurred. Please try again later”. I tried wiping out all Plex data on my phone and starting over, disabling trancoding, HDMI passthrough, plex new player, and the issue still occurs. Rebooted Plex server, same issue. I also tried again later…

EDIT Setting a recording works on a Windows client install. Does not work on my Shiled, Galax S8 and a Galaxy S8+.

EDIT - Started a thread here: “An error has occurred. Please try again later”

Thanks for raising the issue as well @major_briggs. @daioio, do you have any progress to report regarding a fix? The problem has been kicking around now for a significant amount of time. Is there a reason all of the other updates, tweaks and changes take priority here?

What is odd is, if I select my J drive called TV, it works. But if I select my L drive which is DVRTV, it will not work. I feel like I’m missing something simple.

I am having the same issue but mostly only happens on Life Time and Hallmark channels. I did try Schedule Direct guide and I did not have the issue but had some issues with the guide not updating correctly. For me it looks to be more of a guide issue.

I have verified that with the Android Mobile PLEX app and the Android TV app, recording a TV show from the DVR Guide interface (when we have more than one TV-type library) fails to record - even when we specify a library to record to. Scheduling a recording from the native plex app on linux or Mac work fine. It’s just the android app that fails. The recording gets scheduled, but then fails at record-time and then gets removed from the list of recordings as if it never was scheduled to begin with.

It appears this is still an issue. Any update you can provide would be appreciated. Anything I can do to help narrow down the issue? I can PM my logs if you need them.

@elan Sorry to bug you again, but is there any chance you can find out what’s going on with this bug? We can’t schedule recordings from Android on any device. It looks like this has been going on for a year. It’s really surprising that a core function like this doesn’t work on the most used OS. Can you find out if we can get some attention on this and get it fixed soon? Appreciate your help.

Sorry for the delay I just wanted to update and let you know this is being tracked as part of the bigger piece of work. We got held up a little just before Christmas with some high priority work but things are being picked up again. There were some fixes that landed a while back but there still seems to be some issues for specific cases, so part of the improvements will be looking to sort out settings.

Again apologies for the delay, just to reassure you these issues will be resolved

Just wanted to make it very clear the following issues also exist on Android TV

  1. Unable to select a library from “Add To Library”
  2. The “Advanced” menu item appears only after circling the menu - probably a good intention to minimise the Advanced menu item but very inconvenient as most of us have to go to Advanced to set number of episodes to keep.
  3. It would be extremely helpful to avoid repetition if the last recording menu options set could be remembered - personally I always use the same advanced settings for all my recordings.

I too have an update. I switch to schedules direct and no longer have the issue where recordings are not set. What I did notice was that the times were off by 2 hours between the Plex provided guide and schedule direct. This was only for channels like life time and hallmark.

I too cannot select the recording location always. Sometimes I can select a different location but it does not look like it changed it but it does but not always. This is in the android app.
